As a sports fan you have to recognize greatness and I watched one of the greatest feats ever in the world of sports last night. UConn women's team won their 100th game in a row and that streak continues. That is a team that lost its 3 stars from last season, that went 1,2, and 3 in the last draft and yet they just keep on rolling.

I don't watch women's basketball but I watched this game last night, I rooted for those UConn women because I wanted to see what may well be the greatest winning streak ever in the sport. Per the announcers of that game, this is not really anything near the best team UConn has had, they didn't have a single player pre-season considered to be a 1st team AA, thou they do have a young lady that has played her way in to being considered the best player in the country now.

100 in a row folks, that is historic, that is amazing, that is greatness personified!

Geno is a great coach (well, beside the sexually harassing his players). But I think the games are just formalities after he crushes the recruiting trail. I could probably coach that team to national titles year in and year out if you give me 10 out of the best 15 women in the game too. The testament is really to his recruiting.

UConn women are the reason that women's college basketball sucks. As @Hark_The_Sound_2010 mentioned above, UConn winning is a formality. If you already know the outcome then what's the point in watching? If there was more parity then more people would pay attention. I'm not saying that it would ever blow up and get a huge audience, but it would certainly grow.

As I said, I do not watch or follow women's basketball but I started following what these UConn women were doing when that streak hit 90, I watched last night. About the only other thing that would have me watch a woman's game would be if UNC women got to the final 4, I would watch that to. But I am no fan of UConn sports yet I watched this last night. Is that what adds to a sport, drawing in new viewers, that is what this UConn team has done to me. I can't help but want them to keep winning, to see how high they can push that total. I think that helps their sport more than hurt it.

I do not watch women's basketball because I am spoiled by the amazing athleticism of the men's game but from a purist standpoint, the women's game is in many ways more pure. It is more a game of fundamentals than it is athletes that are so much more talented than than others. It is more of a throw back to a day when men used to shoot freer throws under handed. It is hard to get in to when you are as spoiled as I am by what we see in the men's game. But guys, 100 in a row is 100 in a row, that is like Michael Phelps stuff, you may have known he was gonna win but you were compelled to watch and ya knew you were watching something special.

Only if you continue to watch. They need viewership for every game, not just one game a year. That's not going to happen without parity. I'm not trying to downplay what they have done. It's crazy that they have been able to achieve what they have achieved, but it hasn't helped women's basketball outside of Connecticut.

The women's game is so ridiculously top-heavy, I assume because there are so few top flight super athletic players? A top 5 team versus say #20 is almost always a blowout.

My main thought about the women's game is that the scores should be in pink on the crawl to avoid overreacting to them. WHAT??? dook lost to Clemson by 15? Oh yeah, now I see that little W at the end of NCAA. The scores should be a different color.

This is one thing that I like better about women's basketball (although not enough to get me to watch it). It's that it's so much more fundamental. You actually need to be able to create space and shoot - which is the way basketball was originally designed to be played.

In the men's game there are people like Dwight Howard, DeAndre Jordan, and Shaq back in the day - where none of them can actually shoot a basketball or create space without the ball or things of that nature. The only reason they're any good is because they're tall enough that they can dunk anything they get near the rim, and big enough that they can bang into other guys and move them backwards to allow them to get close enough to dunk.

I think they actually call travels in the women's game too. None of this Lebron crab dribble where he can take 5 steps without dribbling and they allow it. For those reasons - the women's game is a better game, but due to the less exciting athleticism and lack of parity, its still fairly unwatchable - at least for me.
