UNC gets first portal commit in Paxson Wojcik

5 more scholarships to fill, and the staff intends to fill them all.
Don't be surprised if the bench guys commit first.
Is this a good addition? I mean obviously Hubert and Wojcik think so, but what makes him a good choice?
Too many good players in the portal to sign a guy because he is in the family. Is he any better than Lebo ? Go after 3 athletic shooters and 2 front court bigs.
The fact he is willing to take a reduced bench role when most players in the portal want bigger roles.
He is significantly better than Lebo. Was that a serious question or are you just being funny? Lebo isn't averaging 15 and 7 on 38% 3pt shooting even on the JV squad.
You seem to think we're just going to be able to grab 6 great players from the portal, and convince 3 of them to take drastic playing time cuts and become bench players. That's not going to happen.
We need 3 starters. And we need 3 bench players. Paxson is fine being the 3rd string SG bc he loves UNC.
This is why Paxson is down to be a 3rd string SG at UNC. It's his dream school.
He can shoot and play multiple positions which is exactly what you want to build depth.
He looked TOTALLY left handed there. Did he even go right once ? Just what stuck out to me, from that clip. And some awful dee...lol
I agree. And shooters need to be in the flow of the game to be effective. Just another kid happy to sit the bench at UNC and be a cheerleader.
Hubert Davis don't develop players they either got it or they don't!
Yeah I think this is a big part of it. He also has a good A-TO ratio, rebounding numbers, and got awarded for the highest GPA on his team, so he's a smart hustle player. Not bad for filling out your roster (doesn't look like we'll have a scholarship crunch...).
On the other hand, I'd hold off on any "designated shooter" tags for a guy who's a 67% career free throw shooter. As we saw with Nance, 3-point percentage can be noisy, and I'm a bit worried he's not actually a great shooter. Hopefully he's pretty good there, otherwise I think he'll struggle to get minutes.
Ehhh.. he looked pretty bad in that video against us. Did not see any outside shot and not very athletic.. he was one dimensional with that left hand on all of his points. I know that video was over a year ago but still. This doesn't look any better than Platek to me.. I've said this before, at UNC, we can't just settle for anyone.
I can only lol that all his scores were against Walton, McKoy, and Love. Not exactly a murderer's row of perimeter defenders!
It's better in the sense Wojcik is hopefully happy in a 5-10 min a game role. The other guys clearly were not.
So if he looked bad, what adjective would you use to describe the UNC players in that video (Davis, Love, Walton, McKoy, Manek, Bacot, Garcia, Black) ?
Honestly I would be surprised if he has that many minutes. Spot guy, practice player type.
I imagine we're expecting him to get at least a few minutes. Otherwise, why take him? I'd have held the scholarship until you have more roster certainty if there's truly no expectation he plays. But yeah, sorta hard to see him as a fit. Is he actually better than Dunn?
10th man at UNC but he’s going to work his ass off in practice and can shoot it a bit. Glad to have him onboard
There will be more coming in the portal. Who knows maybe he beats out Dunn, but I would guess he is the number 5 guard behind RJ, Wilcher, Trimble, and Dunn as is. Heck, Hubert still wants Timberlake. I think he is destined for break glass in case of emergency use.
Seems he wants to be with the big boys his dad had him around his whole life, top shelf. He struggled at mid major Loyola, transfered to low major and did well. Now he finishes saying he was UNC level.
I hope he isn't needed much more than that.
His size is appealing. We need bigger guards. But I don't think this is a serious rotation candidate. At least I hope not.
Anyone who thinks we couldn't do better than this is crazy... he was rated 49th best in the portal. This was not a great get unless he's happy to get mop up minutes only.. or unless Hubert is planning on filling all 5 spots.. felt like we could do way better than this. This is good if he's the worst one we get in the portal, if not, then it's bad.

If it makes you feel better, just think of Wojcik as being the guy who is using 3-star Will Shaver's scholarship for one season. Then it will be open for a 2024 recruit to use.
