UNC is 19th in Scoring Defense

Back 2/3rds of the schedule is going to stress that number. If we finish Top 50 in scoring D, we'll win 8 games. Top 30, 9 or even 10 Ws.

Donnie Miles is laying the wood so far this year....Kid has WR thinking about catchng the ball....

Our defense is more fundamentally sound this year. We've seen fewer missed assignments, better pursuit angles, and better tackling. The coverage in the secondary has shown marked improvement. Love the toughness Miles brings. Our secondary seemed to shy away from contact in recent years, often absorbing the hit as opposed to delivering the hit. We had a lot of head ducking just before contact that often led to missed tackles. I've seen much less of that this year. Chizk has assembled a very good defensive staff and we're already reaping some early rewards.

I think we'll be pretty solid defensively after a few more games.

We should be able to use a few practices this week to look ahead to GT's offense. I dont anticipate Delaware putting up much of a fight

Not gonna happen. Coaches just won't do it. That sends a message to the players that Delaware isn't worthy of respect. UNC has to respect all opponents.

Fact is, there are going to still be some games we are going to simply have to outscore teams in shootouts to win. Probably GT, Miami, most likely. Statistically, teams are still stuffing the stat sheet on us....but our SCORING D has been good against teams that are just OK on O. To be fair, USuCk scored more on both UGa and KY than on us, but A&T getting nearly 300 yds on us means we aren't a stonewall yet by any means.

Yes

It is all about the fundamentals. And next year, when we have more depth and experience, especially on the D line, we could see a classic UNC D.

Very impressed with the D. We have better gap control and have some good hitters and pursuit that was non existent last year. Although, while tacking is better it is still not where it needs be. I noticed a lot of simple missed arm tackles and poor effort tackles in the Illinois game (as well as a lot of good tackles). So a handful of players still need some work in that area. I am sure the film room will come in handy and some extra "work" will help instill a better tackling discipline.

As someone who would take Luke Kuechly's game if I could be any player in the NFL, hard hitting and great tackling are the things I most enjoy about football. Those are the aspects of our team that I most hungered to see improve, along with playing smarter. I've seen better efforts in all three areas. I expect to see the improvement continue as our guys get more reps in the new system.

I'm okay with that for now considering last year.
