UNC vs VIRGINIA GAME THREAD

I'll say this... Theo and Kenny fit well together early.
What has changed in the last 4 games?
What is different on the floor?
Could it be, adding another offensive player midway through the season doesn't work?

The problem is Theo has played like pure shit in large stretches the last few weeks. Not sure what his deal is but he’s actually really hurt us on the defensive end.

What changed?

1) We started playing teams with comparable/superior talent
2) Maye woke up from his trance
3) Teams figured out how little they have to respect our bigs

Johnson hasn't fixed any problems, but he didn't break our offense.

His defense hasn't been good, though.

Playing at our usual tempo, that translates into about a 17-point loss (estimating, until I see the final numbers). Only 1 point better than the humiliating MSU loss.

The good news is that except for Wofford, we've basically won the games we were supposed to win, and lost the games we were supposed to lose.

It's not so much the record, it's how bad we've looked in 3 of our 4 losses.

Theo has been quite bad at times, but we're still better with him on the floor than off.

I thought he had beat that problem last season. And he looked good earlier this season. It's like he's started backsliding.

In a nutshell, we are a jump shooting team with zero post presence. The opposing 4 and 5 don’t have to remotely guard our bigs which creates a log jam for us to drive and create a lot of consistent open looks. This is why our turnovers have started to increase as we are trying to force it offensively in half court sets. It’s really that simple guys.

Virginia had only played 1 really good team this season - a loss to WVa, on the road. So there was some legit question how good they really are.

I guess we know now.

When we didn't start poorly - a recent concern - I thought we had a chance. Around the end of the 1st quarter, the handwriting was starting to become clear. It was still close, but only one team on the court was playing like a winner.

Lots of problems but it’s clear that this is what happens when you continually miss out on top big men year after year.

None of our big men are capable of going against ACC quality bigs this year, including Luke.

If something doesn’t click for this team, we are 9-9 or worse this year.

I am going to say what nobody has mentioned, Toney Bradley was suppose to be a star this year. I am still a huge fan of Luke Maye, but he is better when he is grabbing boards and getting garbage put back buckets, and hitting the open Threes. Luke can be handled if opposing teams focus on him. Which goes back to my original point, TB would have freed Maye up.

Cam is okay, but maybe I am watching it wrong, his defense suxx.

Stop bashing Pinson, he is playing the same or sometimes even better than he ever has. Pinson is a good utility player and is not a scorer, so how can you blame him for not being a scorer.

Long story short we miss TB! He would have been a very high pick if he stayed, and we would be a lock sweet 16 team. Unfortunately he is not here anymore, and there is zero we can do about it.

People, including myself are actually blaming Theo for piss poor defense. His head just isn’t in it right now for some reason. Maybe he’s pressing because we are asking more of him this year, I don’t know. But he’s hasn’t been good lately.

The fact that we are a pretty dang good shooting team shows you just how damn bad our bigs are given the results lately.

Even more reason to play the small ball lineup (or some iteration of it). Look, I know that is the antithesis of Roy Williams, but....
