Carolina has come out this half pounding the paint. 55-34 with 16 minutes to go. Even Dickie V with just one good eye saw that Wake player foul Meeks.
Really being called tight now which is probably a good thing because both teams are playing with a chip on their shoulders.
Somebody tell Roy that when you have a sizeable lead you want to limit possessions. Running up and down the floor playing street ball. It's the reason Roy's teams lose leads so quickly.
To be fair though it's also the reason we build them so quickly. Once the other team gets suckered into playing uptempo, we usually end up building leads during those sequences. It isn't always pretty but it usually works out well for us.
I'm absolutely furious. Matador defense at best this 2nd half. This type of effort won't get it done in March
Looks like Wake has just given up as there is just no emotion from the team. People leaving because as dandy don used to say "turn out the lights the party's over".
Time to put the dance team and popcorn vendors in or maybe the ushers or even some fans who still have game
Roy clearly unhappy, especially with the poor defensive effort .He said practice was terrible this week and it showed in this game....17 baskets in 2nd half for Wake and 14 were layups. As far as MP is concerned ,he has never had a star like him in the past with this sort of shooting slump .May get a Wig and incense and start a chant to get MP help .....other than that he has no idea how to get him out of his shooting slump
This team is ripe for an upset and I just hope they can GET to VA tech with the blizzard this weekend and win there .Sounds funny but I am very concerned about this game Sunday. Thing is they WILL be VERY VERY scary when MP and everyone finally starts playing well and hitting shots. Lots of room for improvement and Roy makes No bones about that

Paige slump reminds me of Weezy in the first 15-18 games of 2009 .... that was BRUTAL. But he got out of it and was fantastic down the stretch.
Up by 21 with under 4mins to play and you are furious? Marcus & Jackson in tuff shooting slumps yet we up 21 with under 4mins to go against Wake Forrest and YOU are FURIOUS?
Granted, we did not bring our A game, more like our C game but we dominated a Wake team that has not been exactly an easy out. I got the sense that after we got that early run we kinda eased up on the gas, not exactly foot off the gas but eased up on it, the intensity level being the gas.
Marcus & jackson's shooting slumps concern me but those 2 fellas are to good shooters for this to not break and break soon. The flood gates will open for them both and IMO the next couple games could be when we see that.
2 Guys I am much more worried about are Nate & Meeks, Nate has had some games he was outstanding, last night he would be solid on one defensive trip and just ole it on the next. It is consistent effort I want to see from the kid. That second half looked like nate from last season and that was not good.
Meeks on the other hand, now you can tell me that the kid has nitches that the NBA loves but that just makes me have to ask you how many of his shots got blocked last night by guys that will not ever play in a NBA game? I don't get it guys, you have your man pinned INSIDE the block charge circle and you try to finess the ball in to AVOID contact? Dumb ole me says go right in to the guys chest and make darn sure you draw contact and a chance to get the and 1. If shooting over them is getting your shot blocked why would you not go right thru them and at least get the chance at the foul line where they can't block your shot?
Devon Thomas abuises you and yet you have NBA nitches that are supposed to result in NBA riches? Ya ever see a tape of a guy named Tyler, wore the number #50 on his jersey, that number will never be worn by another Tar Heel player. What do ya think that fella would have done when he had his man pinned inside the block charge circle, well your answer may end with the phrase "weight room"...
I love Meeks soft hands and outlet passing ability, I used to love Wes Unselds game for that as well but one of the many things that made Wesley Unseld such a great player is that he went and got those rebounds that he threw those outlet passes from, he didn't wait till the ball came to him to rebound it, he went and got it. Brice is going to get his rebounds, Hicks goes & gets his, even in recent games Joel James was going to get his, Meeks gets passive and doesn't always go and get his. I see no mid range jump shooting from him, it is all 5ft & in and hope it is not blocked, it is finess it in and try not to draw contact, it is finishing below the rim. Game before this one he had nice point totals, they were pretty much all stick backs or right at the basket finess below the rim finishes, that is not what I look for in a NBA ready big man. It reminds me of $4+ a gallon gas, tried to leave gas in the tank back then cause it cost so much, it looks to me like Meeks is leaving gas in the tank rather than leaving it all on the floor. 6'9" and around 260lbs, you need to use that size and strength and go get yours, you need to play with that next level aggression that a couple of your other big men are playing with. Guys are giving up 20-50lbs going against you, punish them for doing that...
Last night was painful to watch in long stretches. However a win is a win and style points do not matter. I guess the silver lining for me is how many times I have seen Roy's teams playing their best basketball in January and early February only to tail off come tourny time. Ellis was annoying at times last night but he was correct in saying the only team that can beat UNC might be UNC. I kind of guessed that practice was bad when Roy started subbing 5 for 5 with some different combinations, looked like he was trying to find something that would show signs of life. With the current landscape in college basketball this team is capable of putting together a 6 game stretch in the tournament that is truly dominant. Carolina's A game is something no one else can handle IF they can start hitting on all cylinders.
Roy has never started ACC play 4-0 ...or 5-0 ...or 6-0. I'm not furious, I'm THRILLED and very optimistic. GO HEELS
