I hate that guy he acts like he actually did something against Jordan and is still living off of it mean while Jordan is just a billionaire who happened to count the phrase the ceiling is the roof and make millions off of the gaff
I fear that this is going to be the temperature of this team this season in conference. If the 3's are falling, they're gonna look unstoppable. If they aren't though, they look very much like a rebuilding middle of the road team until Berry takes over the game.
Going to be plenty of games like this throughout the year. Instead of frustration, I for one, am going to really enjoy watching this team. I was skeptical going into the year, and have been pleasantly surprised, especially with Kenny and Luke.
They will be a dangerous match up against anyone with that small lineup, but vulnerable to almost everyone when they struggle to knock down 3's. Going to enjoy watching Roy work to get this team to play to different strengths then what his typical rosters usually have with strong bigs.

It was much closer than it should have been for sure. Luckily Berry hit the big shot at the end.
There was a time in the Wofford game and this game where it could have been blown open from 9-10 lead to whatever we needed to coast., But not guarding 3's kept both of them in the game and cost us dearly once..
Much more to do with movement and spacing in the half court.... they’re letting tight defense take them out of the offensive flow and it’s hurting.
Not valuing the ball is driving me crazy. Brooks has to learn to go right at other bigs strong. Pusstfootin around will not get it done at all.
Last time we played Wake we won but it was 93-87, last year at this time 12/31/16 we lost to GT 63-75 and folks panicked then. Right after that GT loss we rolled on to a 7 game winning streak and the season ended pretty good as I recall?
Yeah, that is a really big factor for him to learn, heck with the cute stuff, if your defender is inside the B/C circle take it right at him, attack the defender. I can't tell if it is a lack of upper body strength or temperament but the kid has (and will I should add) to learn to create and finish thru contact deep in the post, if nothing else get to the line and get the defenders in foul trouble.
Yes they are, but they're also abandoning driving because our baby bigs haven't quite mastered the art of floor spacing down low to create those driving lanes.
Its when we go to that stupid trap. Ive never understood doing stuff like that against an inferior team. Its like playing a QB in football that cant do anything against your secondary and you start blitzing which gives him more openings. This is arguably our best on the ball defensive team under Roy, why do we continue to give teams open looks that they would never get against our regular defense just because we might get a steal
The traps don't worry me, as long as it isn't telegraphed but what KILLS me is we help out so deep and no one hawks the passing lanes back out by rotating from the back side. It allows those easy kick out spot up looks, drives me bonkers!
BC beat d00k, Wake is every bit as good as BC. It's the nature of the ACC this year, there will be even more "upsets" than usual. What separates the ACC from all other leagues is the quality of the bottom half teams.
We definitely need to improve our 3-pt defense. But Roy's teams, much like Dean's, are always going to help down a little too deep for my liking. It is probably the biggest issue that I have with Roy's coaching style. The 3-pt shot is simply too big a part of today's game to allow open looks consistently. You can help down some but it is imperative that you stay within recovery distance.
We have the players to defend the perimeter as well as anybody. I wish we wouldn't help down so much, especially against teams with marginal interior games. But I know Roy will continue to teach that. Some things never change.

That's my approach as well. Roy will continue to develop his bigs and try to incorporate our more traditional inside-outside game plan. But the fact is that our freshman bigs struggle right now against better competition. So, as much as I hate it, we're going to be more reliant on the long ball. If it's falling, we can beat anyone. If not, we can lose to just about anyone. The three is a double edged sword, just ask d00k fans. They know better than most.
I think Roy knows that the team he has this year is only going to accomplish so much. Because of that I think he is coaching more for the next 2 years than he is this year. I think he always has an eye on the future whether that be March/April or next year. This MIGHT be one of those years that he's using to develop his next contender. I'm not saying he's not trying to win every game, just maybe doing more teaching and allowing more growing pains than he normally would.
I think Roy is always developing his next contender. I do think he realizes that this year's team isn't the traditional UNC team with a strong interior game. Now, he's going to try to develop that interior game, but I think he already sees that he will have to coach this team a little differently. That will likely entail playing the bomb squad more often and relying on perimeter scoring more heavily than is usual for more traditional UNC teams.
As such, our margin for error is going to necessarily be thinner than many teams of the recent past. I have already prepared myself for this and expect to acquire many more grey hairs this season, but it should be a very exciting season none the less.
And I think Roy pared down his rotation some for this game, Sterling and Huff only played 13 minutes combined. I think he'd like to give Joel(35 minutes) and Luke(32 minutes) a little more rest, but he also very much wanted to win this game. To win the regular season, you have to try to hold serve at home and steal a few on the road. And you need to beat the teams that you're "supposed to beat". Wake is one of those teams.
One caveat, Wake has a lot of talent, both inside and out. Their bigs are raw, like ours, but they have some really good guards. Look for them to upset some teams this year.
I'm getting a little worried about Manley. For a while he seemed better than expected. But now it seems like he may be having trouble keeping up. Which is to say that while most players get better as the season wears on, he may not be getting better quite as fast as we need him to.

Play Huffman and Manley as much as possible so that we're not in this same situation next year. When the game is on the line have either Brooks or Maye at the 5 and the other 2 watching from the bench.
I think that's the plan. Give the bigs as much burn as they can handle and be halfway effective, while still trying to win the ACC. Brooks has been pretty steady but Sterling has been up and down, as is to be expected from a big guy who lost so much crucial developmental time. He's going to look very good in some games, only to disappear in others.
But Garrison is a liability at the line so we may have to resort to the bomb squad, love that moniker, at the end of games. BTW, I knew Cam could shoot, but his defense is better than I expected and he has 13 boards in the 3 games he's played. We need him to rebound, especially when we go small, and he's already shown that he's willing to do so.
I know our bigs don't have the best hands yet but there was a play yesterday where Manley had a great post up with his man behind him and our guard looked down and just passed the ball back around the top of the key. If they work that hard for the ball u have to reward them for their effort.
