• Carolina won its second in a row and the eighth time in its last nine games.
• The Tar Heels are 110-52 all-time in the ACC Tournament, including 50-14 in the quarterfinals, 6-5 as a No. 5 seed, 18-8 vs.
No. 4 seeds and 24-8 in Charlotte.
• The win was the 100th under Hubert Davis in his 143rd game as Carolina’s head coach. He is the third fastest to 100 in UNC history and sixth fastest in ACC history. Roy Williams (129 games) and Frank McGuire (139) reached 100 wins in fewer games for the Tar Heels. Duke’s Vic Bubas (128 games), Williams, Wake Forest’s Skip Prosser (136), McGuire and Maryland’s Lefty Driesell (142) are the only ACC coaches to win 100 in fewer games.
• The Tar Heels will be playing in the semifinals for the 55th time in 72 ACC Tournaments. Carolina is 36-18 in the semifinals.
• Carolina held Wake Forest to 59 points, one game after allowing 56 in the win over Notre Dame. It is the first time UNC has held consecutive opponents below 60 points since a three-game stretch last season (57 by Pitt, 55 by Clemson and 54 by NC State).
• It is the first time the Tar Heels have allowed fewer than 60 points in consecutive ACC Tournament games since the 2016 semifinals (47 by Notre Dame) and championship game (57 by Virginia) and the 2017 quarterfinals (53 by Miami).
• Carolina won despite shooting a season-low 33.9% from the floor (previous low was 39.0% in a December 7 win over Georgia Tech).
• It was the lowest shooting percentage in a win since 2/24/2024, when the Tar Heels made 32.0% in beating Virginia in Charlottesville.
• Carolina shot 35.7% from the floor in the first half and 32.1% in the second. It was the first time UNC won when shooting under 40% in both halves since last year at Virginia.
• Carolina’s 19 field goals were a season low and the fewest since it made 16 last year at Virginia.
• Carolina both led and trailed by double digits. The Deacons led 14-3 six and a half minutes into the game before Carolina rallied to take a 33-31 lead the break. The Tar Heels then built a 42-32 lead with 17:37 to play.
• It was the third time this season Carolina trailed by double digits and won (Dayton led by 21 and UCLA by 16).
• From the 12:46 mark of the second half until RJ Davis made his fifth 3FG of the game with 2:43 to play to give the Tar Heels a 61-57 lead, neither team by more than two points. In fact, during that 10-minute stretch the margin was two points for just one stretch when Wake Forest led 56-54 from 6:12 until Jae’Lyn Withers made a go-ahead three with 4:35 remaining.
• The game featured 12 lead changes (third most in a game this season behind 17 at Notre Dame and 14 vs. Stanford) and 12 ties (most since Jan. 25 when UNC and Boston College were tied 16 times).
• Carolina trailed for 17:57, the most in a win since UCLA led for 36:33 in UNC’s win in New York on December 17.
• Once Davis hit the three with 2:43 to go, UNC led for at least four points the rest of the game.
• Tied at 57, Ven-Allen Lubin gave UNC the lead it would not relinquish with a free throw with 3:14 to play that preceded Davis’ three-pointer that gave UNC the 61-57 lead.
• Carolina made 22 of 27 free throws, the ninth time this season it made 20 or more.
• The Tar Heels are 15-4 this season when attempting 20 or more free throws and 14-2 when they make more (Wake Forest made 15 of 20).
• RJ Davis tied his season high with five three-pointers and led UNC with 23 points. He also made five threes against Campbell on December 29. It was the 10th time in his career he made five or more three-pointers.
• Davis has made three or more three-pointers in six straight games and has connected on 21 threes in those six games. He had a seven-game streak with at least three 3FGs last season.
• Davis has 2,676 career points and 352 three-pointers. He is third in ACC history in all-time scoring and passed Georgia Tech’s Dennis Scott (351) for fourth in three-point field goals.
• Davis went 8 for 8 from the free throw line, the eighth time in his career he made 8 for 8 or better from the line.
• Ven-Allen Lubin scored 10 points (his eighth straight game in double figures), tied his career high with 13 rebounds and tied his career high with three blocks. He made back-to-back field goals for the Tar Heels in the final 2:00, the first on a lob from Elliot Cadeau and the second on an offensive rebound slam.
• Lubin had 13 rebounds last season while playing for Notre Dame vs. St. Bonaventure.
• It was the third Lubin’s third double-double in four games (also at Virginia Tech and vs. Notre Dame)
• Seth Trimble also scored in double figures. He was 1 for 6 from the floor but 8 for 9 from the free throw line. It was the third time this season he made eight free throws in a game (8 for 9 vs. Georgia Tech and 8 for 8 at Kansas).
• Wake Forest made 2 for 22 from three-point range. The Deacons’ 3FG percentage of .091 was the lowest by an opponent this season by a team for both 10 or 20 attempts. The previous low for 20 or more attempts was .179 (5x28) by Alabama and Florida.
• Carolina is 170-28 in all games in Charlotte, including 20-3 in the Spectrum Center.
