Haven't seen every 2-4 team this year, but I'd be hard-pressed to definitively proclaim one to be better than those despicable Snobs north of the border.

We'll be going for our 6th straight W over uva on Sat.. Funny, but for as much as they tortured us for nearly 3 decades from the mid-80s to 2010, 5 years straight was their longest W streak in the series (87-91).

Hate to say it, but I'm not sure we'd be better than 2-4 against their schedule to date. At UCLA? NDame? Boise St.? At Pitt? Maybe the latter 2....maybe. We'd probably be 3-3, having split those games. All to say we'd best be ready to play Saturday, b/c the Hoos are at least as good, probably better, than GT....and maybe as good as Illinois, our best Ws to date.

They have a very good RB, and a decent OL. WRs are pretty good too. You know TJ is gonna want to show out vs. us. Now, where we can hurt them is thru the air...their pass D struggles bigtime. We need to show progress by not sleepwalking thru the 1st Q, and kill their upset hopes from the start.

UVA has more talent than the record this year or last year would indicate. And now the Cavs feel they have a lot to play for. Any UNC player who takes them lightly is, quite simply, a fool.

Need to attack them via the pass. Marquise needs to avoid a slow start (perhaps this could be aided by play-calling.....only call Hood and Quise runs on the first drive or something, to get MW in the flow of things).

UVA has good athletes, no doubt. But so do we, and we have much more to play for. I seriously doubt we take this game lightly. As amicably as T.J. left, you know the players will want to beat his butt.

i like ours better than theirs...and who knows how london and co. are motivating that team because he's fired.

stating the obvious, but it will be imperative to get up early.

continue at a break-neck pace, then maybe throw it forty more times...;)

It is hard to blame TJ for seeking more PT elsewhere, but did he have to go to UVA? I def don't want him to get injured, but I hope he goes catchless and is ineffective in trying to block us.

I'm sorry but uva is terrible. We should drop 60 on them. Their offense is terrible and defense isn't great either. Im expecting a blowout by UNC

Champ, UVa is not "TERRIBLE", and we've not dropped 60 on anyone this year (incl 2 FCS teams). Uva was one PLAY from beating NDame. You are setting yourself up for disappointment.

Notre Dame also struggled mightily to beat UMass. Just saying. Similar to all teams raising their games against us in basketball, it's pretty common for all teams to raise their play against ND in football, so I don't see it as THAT impressive that UVA played well against ND. JMHO

But that being said, on paper UVA certainly has some athletes. They're limited at QB though.

Oh, okay. I wouldn't characterize that as struggling mightily. That happens to plenty of good teams like tOSU vs. Northern Illinois this season.

Notre Dame's offense is pretty comparable to UNC's offense, actually. The Domers have also faced much better competition.

^^ OK Raising. Don't make me give you the Owen Wilson speech in Wedding Crashers. "I don't need your negativity...your g****mn negativity!"

And I don't mean to be negative, not at all. But this is not a team we can come out and sleepwalk for a quarter or a half against....the key to beating them is demoralizing them and making them realize that their coaches are overmatched. I've seen a few games this year where they start pointing fingers on the field when things go poorly for them.

IMHO, that's the next step for this UNC team. START A GAME in such a way as to remove all doubt midway thru the 1st half against a team like uva. Don't give them a chance to gain confidence. They have shown the ability to beat better teams who let them get started quickly, under London ("Bunting North"). They ripped mooU to shreds in 2012 w/ a 3-9 team, 31-6, when they got off to a quick 21-0 start. They beat Louisville and Pitt last year, and frankly, should've beaten us...we "big-played" them to death in a game in which they outgained us by 150 yds., +/- a few.

Boise st and UCLA made uva look like a higg school. Uva is not good. I understand this is the classic "trap" game but Wake Forest is better than uva. Yeah same Wake team who lost to fsu by 1 score, same Wake who's defense shut out BC at BC. Didn't BC score 17 on Clemson? Didnt Wake hold fsu to 24 points and scored 16 but against us we scored 50 and held them to 14?? We are that much better than uva

^^ Agreed with this. We MAY be able to overcome a slow start, but let's not even find out. Let's start hot and make our biggest worries "should we pull the starters yet?" when it's the 3rd quarter

A lot of truth to this too. This isn't your typical Boise State team this year and they blew the brakes off Virginia. A T.J. Thorpe long catch aside, UVa did NOTHING in that game, at home, in primetime.

UCLA was destroyed by the same Stanford team that lost to Northwestern (shutout by Iowa and UM) and Boise was destroyed by USU(Utah St for us in Realville). I will go on record as saying our team will not be taking anybody lightly from here on out , but slow starts do worry me and they probably come from pressing.

Didn't read all this. So someone may have beat me to it. This game is simple. STOP SMOKE MANZELL!!!!!!! Every time I have watched UVA. Every good play on Offence by them this year has gone through him it seems. Only watch 2 of there games but it just seems that.

Sorry, it's just not that simple. Wake may be better on the whole UVa ( for the record, I don't think so), but in terms of what could potentially bode badly for us specifically, uva is a much tougher matchup. ATHLETICALLY, they are superior across the board to WF; they RUN it better, their KICKING game is much better (Hoo punter avgs. 49 yds per punt NET (very likely to lose the hidden yardage battle, no small concern).

I agree UVa is much more athletic and they have players who came in much more highly rated. 2 5 stars on "D".

Now, uva's coaching is worse than WF's, although Tenuta is top shelf (and a top shelf a-hole to boot). And where we need to make a living is a strength of ours, offensive balance. Hood, Hood, Hood til they cheat, them bam, get our WRs in mismatches for big plays.

NOBODY hates the boohoos more than me. Had to live in that sh*tpit of a state for 5+ years. What a bunch of self-aggrandizing, arrogant blowhards. Note I'm being nice....board probably would object to me calling them c*cks%ckers.

Whoa, whoa whoa,...I was going to let your nonsensical rant go because I just figured you were getting yourself psyched up for this weekend but I can stand idly by no longer.

First of all, the Commonwealth of Virginia is the greatest place on earth. To call it a "shitpit of a state" means you either lived north of C-ville (which no one really considers Virginia) or you're just trying to rile me up. As far as Charlottesville goes, it's one of the coolest cities around. It has everything.

As for UVa fans, yeah, they act better than you. But it's only because most of the time, they are. It's hilarious to me when UNC fans make fun of UVa fans for the exact same reasons that other fans make fun of UNC. The two schools are so similar.

Lastly, you seem somewhat informed on the football team. But here's the deal, UVa isn't a very good team. They have some good talent, especially on defense. But they don't really have any playmakers. Mizzel and Severin are all they have on the offensive side. And while both are dangerous players, the offense struggles to get them the ball in space. I've not seen a QB as hot/cold as Matt Johns. One game he can look terrific (Notre Dame) and then in another game, he can look abysmal (BSU). It depends on which Johns shows up. But like someone else mentioned, London's regime is ending. At some point, the team will stop responding. I think that time could be Saturday if the Heels can get on the board quickly and hit the Cavs hard early. They don't have the type of offense to put up a lot of points quickly. They need to play from the lead or at least within range. If we can get up a couple scores early, we should be able to coast thereafter.

Heels win 34-21.

Never really "hated" UVa like some of my UNC brethren, but I guess it is like everything else and depends on your perspective. If you live in and around ANY group of "fans" of some school not your own you are likely to have a skewed view of the school and it's fans. With that said, there are jerks at EVERY school and guys/gals/whatevers who will give that school a "bad name" by their antics. In my experience most ass-hats have rarely even set foot on the campus of the school they "love", much less gone there (or anywhere else for that matter).

As for the state of Virginia, living a short distance from the border, I also have a somewhat skewed perspective of the residents there. For example, in my neck of the woods those who cross the border to come to my back yard can't drive for crap. Those I do run into also have a "holier-than-thou" attitude when it comes to us NC folks as well. Again, likely the circle of people I come into contact with. Venturing further north, I always found the residents to be some of the most friendly, pleasant folks you could meet. I completely discount ANYONE living north of the line from about Harper's Ferry down to Richmond because they live in their own little world that is so close to DC politically, socially and every other "lly" you can dream of that they barely qualify as US citizens in my book.

From my viewpoint, however, there are very few spots on this planet that have as many breathtaking sights to behold. That includes the UVa campus, which is one of the most beautiful college campuses in the country, hands down. I fell absolutely in love with a farm owned by a girlfriend's family in the mountains outside of Bassett when we visited there many moons ago. To live there on that spot of land would be as close to paradise as I could imagine. Being a history buff, there are more historical sights in that state that I could get immersed in that I can count.

With that said, the record in Charlottesville that our beloved football team has is definitely a thorn in my side and causes me to get my feathers ruffled more at UVa than, say, Wake. And the "style" of basketball they now play is hands down the single most boring, cover your deficiencies like a blanket bunch of crapola anyone has come up. It works for them, but I sure can't stand it. Besides that, watching that moron in the turban on the sidelines at every basketball game for what seemed like 30 years straight years was enough for me to want to punch him.

As for this weekend's game, UVa has struggled mightily and I believe London's days are numbered. He knows it and so does everyone else. If the team gets down to us early they may very well pack it in. But, knowing he is on the chopping block also makes them dangerous because they could pull an "us against the world" mentality and take it to us. In the end I think we pull it out, but I don't think we come close to the score we had against Wake. I think this will be a tight game and might even come down to the last few plays before it is decided. It all depends on which UVa team decides to show up.

Only 2 things concern me:
1. Still without MJ Stewart. Replacement's didn't impress me against Wake. I know they were playing somewhat out of position with his absence.
2. Can we get pressure on the QB. I know there QB isn't highly touted but if we give him too much time Mizzel will kill us. Eager to see if Jalen can get pressure. He seems to be the only hope in that area.

42-17
