When Roy lost he took blame for it, I haven't heard Hubert one time take blame for a loss.
Yes. From what little I've seen and heard of his post game press conferences after losses, it can be boiled down to " I love all these guys (unconditionally), none of them have made mistakes, we competed hard but need to compete harder, other than that -
I don't know what went wrong or what we should have done differently".
"I don't know" is what sticks with me from each of these press conferences. He's not up to the job and it should be embarrassing to him and to the university.
ETA: one other thing... Hub talked about "outside noise" and having to talk to and deal with not just the 12 players in the locker room (really probably just 5-8 who play)....but having to deal with / talk to up to 30-40 people around the team: family, agents, handlers, "friends of players", fans, etc.
I know this reality is an unfortunate part of the game and helped lead to Roy stepping down, and maybe other coaches too, like Jay Wright, etc. and easier said than done to manage outside noise.
But how do other coaches or teams avoid or best manage this? If you "let the inmates run the asylum" so to speak, and you set that precedent, how do you ever get back control as leader of the team?
The only people where discussions should happen during the season, in practices, locker rooms, games, and even off court, are between the coaches and the players, period. Nobody else. And the players should know there are consequences for not doing what they are coached to do. That obviously was not the case this year especially for one player.
