UVA - UNC ACC-T Championship Game

This has been a hell of a game.

Protect the ball in the second half and control the glass. UVA has 6 offensive rebounds. UNC has 8 turnovers.

Tough first half of basketball (football really). UVa is a good team but damn near impossible to beat when they are allowed to tackle you on the defensive end and then proceed to wait 30 seconds to score on the other end.

Regardless, we must improve by limiting turnovers, mostly unforced. UVa is a good defensive team but they aren't a pressure defensive unit. They simply keep you in front of them and force you to shoot over the top. Marcus Paige shot selection has to improve. With limited possessions against a team like UVa you can't just hike up shot after shot contested. You have to get good looks. Justin Jackson killed us. He was abused on defense and on the boards. He also had a few turnovers simply being weak with the ball.

How did berry make 2 3s and a layup according to the play by play but only have 5 points in the boxscore???

Playing a team who loves to defend with contact... and naturally the refs call 6 total fouls in the entire half. I didn't know under the new rules that it was possible to foul so little.

Regardless of the outcome, this is why UVa hasn't been able to make a deep run under Bennett. When you get in the tournament, you will eventually run into a set of refs who will call the game literally and force UVa to actually play defense without their hands and without contact. He's done a nice job making them relevant again and they've won a ton of games because they play so damn ugly but it's not the type of scheme that will win the big tournament. It's just not.

The 2nd half of this game will tell us a lot about the toughness of this team and their mindset for the stretch run. We have to fight. We have to show the will to do whatever it takes to win. Win and compete on every possession. Come on Heels!

Ok, I think we all know UVa is a much better team than ND. I don't think anyone expected us to blow them out of the gym like we did the leprechauns last night. Still, I sure expected us to rebound better give our size advantage.

All in all it is about what you'd expect from this game. I expected more, but I guess an unbiased observer would have expected this.

I don't like that they are allowed to push us like they are, but this isn't the first time we have had crap like this happen and it won't be the last. We have to adjust and maybe do some of it on our end and see if they will call it. If not, then fine. If they do, then we know it will be a tough road.

Still, refs aren't costing us anything - yet. Bottom line is we are seeing two top 10 teams go toe to toe in a championship game and this is what we can expect IF we make it to the final four, so get used to it.

As long as we don't have the wheels fall off, I like our chances.

The game will be lost in this stretch with this lineup against UVa leaving their studs in the floor if we can't score.
