Very Quick Stuff (Wake game PT 2)

They are who we thought they were!

I hope we have a new starting 5 next season. The core is done. Has been done this entire season.

Hopefully the new guys don't pee on themselves anytime they play outside the DES.
Agree

Let's try starting Nickel/Puff in place of Nance, and rotating in the other one a lot more. Love needs to change his mentality too, whatever it takes.

Armando is definitely not quitting...

Very telling talking about if you want to be here be here if not go home, he said it twice!

Worried about our self!

He said I'm not surprised!

Talked about how good Dunns defense was in practice this week! Dunn had 2 minutes tonight!

He said I'm the only one that said anything!

Shit show this season is over!

I also listened to Huberts post game, and he was being asked the hard questions and he took some long pauses to find the correct PC answers to those questions.

Also it may be nothing but I don't think a coach should ever answer a question with "I don't know" but I think he is being truthful, he really don't know!

There is problems and these 2 pressers, may it even more obvious!

I think the "shit show season" is over.

I think it's entirely possible that things are about to change, now. I could be wrong. But... what went down in the locker room before the post-game PCs was, apparently, unprecedented. We'll see what happens.

I wouldn't wanna be Clemson this weekend.

I am not sure what defensive miracles Dunn pulls off in practice, but in games I don’t see it. He can’t stop a soul from blowing right past him and driving to the rim. In fact when he was inserted into the Duke game he was directly responsible for basically giving up the working margin we had with a missed shot, a foolish turnover, and then giving up two blow buys in defense. Maybe he looks better in practice as he is covering RJ of Caleb and they are dribbling 30 feet from the basket in search of an opening to shoot a 3

Idk either but maybe the player don't know what good defense is, that would make sense!

You have no consistent outside shooters. That's the main problem imo. That and intensity and coaching.
And that is very much on Roy. Roy had been recruiting guards first and foremost to get the ball up the court fastest to get off the most shots. When that is your emphasis, you rarely get many consistently good outside shooters.

Hubert is finally learning (I hope) that there's more to coaching than just saying every player on the team is the greatest. I mean a positive attitude by coaches and praise for players is great - when it works. But sometimes you need to actually coach.

Every game the same 5 players start and the same 5 players play over 30 minutes. It's time to radically change the starting lineup and the number of minutes certain players are playing. At this point it shouldn't matter who has the most talent or who was a star in last years Final Four run.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. We'll know as soon at the starting lineup is announced on Saturday whether it will be deja vu again.

Hopefully the next couple of years the new guys will be less erratic. Hopefully their bad games won't be 3-17 shooting bad. It's just strange that we have 4 guys in the lineup at all times who have the potential of going like 1-7 or 3-16 on any given night.

Just a very strange team. A strange team that has a bunch of role players. They never grew out of being just role players other than Bacot. And even Bacot, I would categorize him as productive over dominant.

That's how it appeared but it was weird. Leaky is usually very good on breakaways. Why did he half-ass it that time? Very odd.
I really dont think he saw Applebee at all. His reaction was not of s player trying to draw a foul, it was of one thinking " Where the hell did he come from!"

I just did some stat digging. This one was eye popping to me.

Armando Bacot FG% at the rim
2023: 63%
2022: 65%
2021: 68%
2020: 60%

So Bacot has been a below average finisher at the rim for a big guy.

Last year, Manek was 80% at the rim. That was second best in the country for players who attempted at least 100 FGA at the rim, only behind Chet Holmgren.

So we kind of have this image of what Bacot is, and he really isn't that. This team gets more interesting the more you dig in, lol. Manek was that freaking valuable last year.

I recently noticed bacot misses a bunch in close as well.. probably noticed more because of the team’s offensive struggles. Certainly some attempts he’s getting fouled and there not being called but he doesn’t look to have an elite touch

You will be surprised where most of Bacots offensive rebounds come from also.

watching it again, he doesn’t appear to show any sense of urgency from the outset
That's exactly what I saw. 0 effort or sense of urgency from the gitgo and that means the start of the game that play included.

Now do Caleb. Not wanting to pile on but he gets to the rim alot, puts up what looks like a good shot that just doesn't go in as much as it should.
