Larry Fedora announced today that defensive back Brian Walker is no longer a part of the program. Walker told Fedora last Wednesday he was leaving, he wanted to finish his college career somewhere else.
More coming including all of Fedora's comments regarding Walker and also from Marquise Williams, a friend of Walker's who played HS ball with him at Mallard Creek in Charlotte
Here's the Q&A parts regarding Walker. First Fedora and then, as noted, Williams.
Not on depth chart, what’s his status?
He’s no longer with our football team.
Did he leave on his own or did you dismiss him?
He left on his own.
When did that happen?
Wednesday of last week.
Are there details about that situation?
I really don’t know exactly, it would be better for you to talk to Brian Walker to get the details. I think he’s interested in finding a place where he can get more playing time.
When was the last time you talked to him?
Friday, once we got back.
Marquise Williams on Walker
You went to HS with Brian Walker, can you talk about what he’s going through right now?
It’s tough, man. I’ve been knowing Brian for seven years and for him to no longer be on the team is devastating to me. A lot of people, that’s a teammate to them, but that’s more than a teammate, it’s a brother (to me). We went to the same high school, we’ve been through a lot. It sucks to see him leave, (but) whatever is in his best interest I’m going to believe in him, I’m still going to be his brother because that goes a long way. It’s tough losing a teammate because the chemistry we’ve had with one another had just been there this year.
Did you know it was coming or sense it was coming?
Honestly, I didn’t see it coming. You never sense when you’re winning football games everything is all good, everybody is excited, but there might be that one person that’s not excited, and Brian Walker, he decided to move on to do what he needs to do and what’s best for him. We’re behind him 100 percent and he will be truly missed on this football team.
