Wanting To Be On The Ball Prompted Wilcher's Move

i'm 45yo and 100% softer than the previous generations in my family. i cant sleep if the room gets above 70 degrees ... cant mow grass without a podcast in my ear ... hate driving more than 2 miles on the interstate without cruise control - on and on and on.
exactly what I'm talking about. The generations behind us HAD to be tougher because they lived in a tougher world. They handed down a better (?), softer world and we are the softer but not better for it. And it will be the same for the generation we are passing the world to.

I loved hearing the stories from my mom and dad and aunts and uncles and grandparents about what life was like for them. For example, one of my uncles developed mastoiditis when he was a kid. The mastoid is the bone just behind the ear and it can become infected, and it's life-threatening. The doctor came out (house call, they used to do those routinely) and drilled a drainage hole directly into his mastoid bone, with no anesthesia of any kind, with his mom and a brother holding him down.

Yikes.

Gone are the days of ruggedness and self-sufficiency. Now when a glitch occurs in the system, we all sit in a circle and sing kumbaya while we wait for the government to be our daddy.
