Washington Discusses his Game, Ball Screens, Hawaii, Beach, and More

JWash was already my favorite Tar Heel on this team but he is moving up the ladder on my all time list. He & Cadeau are my 2 faves on this team, and that's saying a lot since RJ has been my favorite/co-favorite (last year with JWash) the last 3 years, & yes, even before he became the RJ we know today.

JWash, EC, RJ are all potential All-time Faves! We are so blessed to have these fine young men representing us!

I cannot wait to see these guys once they iron out all the kinks and start operating efficiently at warp speed!

I'd really like to see us run some plays to get him a few 3pt attempts every game. Kind of crazy how infrequently he's shooting 3s after Hubert once labeled him the best shooting big he's ever seen.

We also need to get him the rock in the medium post areas for turn-around Js.
Honestly, I don't understand it, I want to but I just don't? Jalen knows he can hit that mid range jumper and can extend it past the 3pt arch when he wants to. Itg isn't as if he is not confident in his shooting stroke, it is to smooth and when he does take it it's butter. BUT, he just does not actively look for it and his mates do not seem really invested in setting it up for him? Oh he gets the finishes above the rim but his value is so much more than just that.

I shared, think it was in gary's recap of the American game the best shot I saw all night was that mid range from Jalen off a in-bounds pass, just 1 of his 6 for 6 from the field and even then it was not his first thought. Talking about the absolute can opener for what this offense can do, the ability to pull defending centers out of the paint at will? Takes 3 things, Jalen has to want that jumper, has to work for position to get it and take it when it comes. Teammates have to recognize the value of Jalen getting that shot and actively work to get him position for it and Hubert has to make it a strong point that this has to happen.

I honestly put that on the staff. He is not posting with a purpose in those areas and our Guards aren't lookiong to get him the ball there when he does so as an afterthought. If that was an emphasis you can guarantee EC would reward him.

I'll take that a step further. If this team is to achieve the heights it is thoroughly capable of, two things need to happen STAT:
1. The restoration of the proper way to run a Secondary Break, i.e., the rim-run/post dive by the first Big, and
2. Purposeful post entries as part of half-court offense (medium posts for our guys)

We thankfully saw some of the former in the 2nd half Friday --- still waiting for the latter...

I'd like JWash to catch at the free throw line in our zone offense, turn and bury that 12-15 footer without hesitation. That ability DESTROYS zone defenses because it draws baseline defenders up which opens baseline cutters for lobs and layups.

All of JWash's current issues are wrapped up in temperament! He has to want to take shots and move with purpose so his team mates will trust. Anyone on the court can see the difference between a tentative post and a confident one. If I don't feel the person wants the ball, I give it to someone who does!
