Hear me out on this ...This is a response to the thread based on Roy's comments last night about the crowd at the DES center. it prompted comments that I agree with by and large about the atmosphere at the Dean Dome.

Some of what I am talking about HAS been discussed before by Roy, Bubba, and TPTB
I am referring specifically to renovations that ARE really needed at the DES center. Of course most fans here and elsewhere have discussed the need to rearrange the seating I. e. moving the students closer to the floor etc. This is important IMO... that place is dead too much of the time.

Crowds can be sporadic and low key even for conference games..not named dook.

I realize that the old timers paid for their seating ,hell I am an old fart myself. BUT we older types get OLD and are replaced by YOUNGER people who may just be willing to part with seats in an old DES in exchange for perhaps a SUITE at a renovated DES center.

Secondly as I mentioned a few weeks back , Kansas just opened up their basketball dorm... a spectacular dorm that rivals the cats lair or whatever they call it at KY.
Look we are, to quote Fedora in an ARMS race. We are losing recruits IMO as much to facilities LIKE the dorms that these players will LIVE in.

Sorry Granville towers and the DES center are OLDER out dated places .They need to be renovated or REPLACED with state of the art places that will lure recruits just as much as the head coach or style of play or NBA success

All of this will cost $$$ ....a LOT of $$$..BUT we have well heeled( NO PUN) boosters here just like they do in Kansas , KY, or anywhere else

There is a need a BIG need IMO for a total and comprehensive expansion and upgrade to all basketball infrastructure.

Thoughts and comments please.

Yeah, I have long felt it would be a great idea to build luxury box or even a VIP lounge area with wide screens and our broadcast teams game call piped in. Serve food, booze, cater to the blue blood donars, give them a place they had rather be so the ability to get the students closer to the court. I believe the more well to do donars would prefer to enjoy a game in a bit more comfort and maybe we would not see as many empty seats and the students would not have to be treated for nose bleeds.

Bubba has always struck me as a "forward thinker" who looks at the big picture and also can plan and execute a long term strategic vision.

This type of bold big vision with ACTION is needed

I'm curious about something. If I give a huge amount to help with renovations/new facilities, can I write it all off? Assuming so, are we talking tax deductions of the normal kind or tax credits?

I'm guessing just normal tax deductions but couldn't the state of NC make it tax credits for contributions to public universities? It would have to be for all NC public universities, I assume, or it would be discriminatory. But not necessarily for private schools (although they could be included, too).

Now that would only work against state tax, of course, but it could loosen pocketbooks.

I not a tax expert but I would think it was be A NORMAL DEDUCTION rather than a credit. It would make sense to allow credits for contribution to state public universities because a lot of the bill is paid with state funds. But if you had to grant control to the state for every campus modification then maybe it would be more hassle than help.

Seems like this could have gone in the THREAD I HAD ALREADY STARTED, but you know.

You mean the thread that immediately turned into one of this boards' famous "Shit on Roy after one loss" thread in less than 20 posts?

Pass.

I think the housing issue is the biggest we need to address. I've seen videos on both the buildings Kansas & UK have built. They are player friendly facilities & cater to the athletes.

Nice article at least there is discussion and perhaps potential ACTION that is being contemplated

Good article from ol' Adam Powell. I prefer renovation but it needs to be a drastic renovation. One huge thing I'd push for.....lower the damn ceiling. Rebuild the entire roofing structure. The Dome is a cavernous building. I don't even know if that's possible from an engineering standpoint but yeah
