What time does the bar open for business?

North Carolina ABC stores currently have a sale on 1.75 L bottles of Woodford Reserve: $68, down from $73 normally. I got paid yesterday and figured what the hell, I'm gonna drink that much eventually anyway. And since a 750 mL bottle is $40, you end up saving about 27%, which equates to a nice 6-pack of beer. I have either a drinking problem or a math problem, not sure which.

The only downside is that the 1.75 L bottle is comically large. Like, cartoon huge. I have to use two hands to pour a glass because I'm afraid I'm going to drop the bottle. None of the pourers I have will fit, so I probably just need to buy an oversized one.

Just for future reference, I want to be in on the "bourbon lover" crowd. Woodford Reserve is definitely a good one. I really expanded my Scotch palate over the winter, and will now be working on expanding my bourbon palate over the summer. Which is nice, since it's a little cheaper on average too. Any suggestions would be appreciated (might need to be more of the more popular ones as I'm sure there are some smaller brands that don't quite make it up to New England).

First, I'm pissed @Raising Heel didn't include me in the bourbon lovers list since I'm one of few on here he's actually drank bourbon with in person.

Secondly, I bought this yesterday. These colors don't run:

Before you make fun of me for drinking Evan Williams, please note that Evan Williams is one of few bourbon brands left that is AMERICAN owned and privately owned still. Lots of the major bourbon brands have sold out to the Japs and such.

'Murica!

I can appreciate that. If I'm going to a football game and I'm going to pour coke or ginger ale in it, then EW is fine. But I don't drink bourbon often and when I do, I have to have the good stuff. I prefer to drink it neat or on the rocks and you just can't do that with EW. Or at least, I can't.

Nice. I've had Bulleit before (both the bourbon and the rye whiskey), and Basil Hayden's - both very good options. I think I'll take up your suggestion on my next trip to the liquor store and get Booker's.

Ya, I'm the same way on this. Beam and EW are ok if I'm mixing it with some soda and just trying to throw a few back - but I'm willing to spend a little more if I'm sipping on it to get the good stuff. Up until a couple years ago I preferred to mix it anyways, but lately I've become more of a fan of sipping and getting the actual bourbon taste.
