What was the First Vehicle You Owned . . . ?

84 skylark...bought it in 1989 for $1500

the second day i'm driving to practice and i opened a new can of kodiak, it went everywhere...took months to get that smell out.

The car I learned to drive on was a 1984 Chevy S-10 Blazer. I didn't technically own it, though...it was a family car that my brother and I shared. By the way, nice job by Chevy designing a 2-door SUV. Can't tell you how many times I had my face or knees jammed into the dashboard while a friend was trying to get in/out of the back seat. The other option, of course, was to exit the car entirely. Awesome!

The first car I ever bought myself was a 1980 Chevy Citation 2-door hatchback like the one below, purchased in 1995. Mine was completely orange, so it became known as Pumpkin Car. At the time, I was hitchhiking through the western United States without much more than a sleeping bag and a change of clothes. That changed one October morning when I woke up outside a truck stop in Laramie, Wyoming covered in frost. I walked to the nearest used car lot and bought this little gem for $500. I could fold down the back seat to sleep and ending up living out of that car for three months as I drove to Denver, Nashville, Illinois, Michigan.... That damn thing just ran and ran.

I wanna hear stories from that "journey!"

First one I had in high school was a 1982 AMC Eagle. Almost identical to this one.

First one I got for myself was a 1987 Chrysler LeBaron GTS Turbo. Loved that car. It wasn't huge but it was a hatchback so I could get my entire bike in the back without removing a wheel.

No kidding, this was actually my very first vehicle circa 1956

I didn't own a car in high school because my dad told me I'd have to go to work and buy it myself, pay my own gas and insurance. I chose instead to play football, basketball and baseball which allowed no time for work, other than mowing lawns during the summer months for my spending money during the year. Back then if I got $5 for a yard I felt I was making it big. Gas was 26 cents a gallon back then too which allowed for profit even though the pay wasn't much. For my high school graduation present I got my first motorized vehicle.

A 1971 Honda 100cc street and trail motorcycle. The thing was so small, the other cyclists laughed at me. Also, notice how the muffler is up high. The first girl I took for a ride burnt her leg on it and never had anything to do with me afterward.

1967 Mustang,. That medium blue color, with the 305 under the hood.
I had at least a few memorable "firsts" in that car.
