what you guys think about the strangest story you will hear today ?

Littlejon ,
I received a email from Guildford County environmental that had a copy of the original inspection and plat and it had a drawing on it . The drawing shows the lines running north and south and the neighbor says they are running east to west at another location. He has started putting a fence along side my driveway, so we will see how things go and I am getting a survey also.

So he was trying to bullshit you to make a quick buck. Doesn't surprise me.

Why? Is your driveway on the very edge of your property?
The farmer claims it is. My wife does not agree and wants a survey. We will see ! Guilford County has a website that shows the lines but says they may not be accurate. I am going to try and copy and paste it and post it here.

Definitely get it surveyed. Mine is right on where we think the property line is, but my neighbor doesn’t give a Shiite. We get along fine and he could care less. Mine is also grandfathered in as far as offsets, so as long as I don’t redo it, there won’t be an issue. If they have a grandfather clause (if Rockingham county has one, Guilford will) then he has to be real careful because most state existing construction can stay but also say something about offsets for building adjacent to existing stuff. I would check it and see. I haven’t read ours but someone told me that when I asked about the possibility of a future owner building something right on it to interfere with mine. They said the grandfather clause didn’t allow them to do it.

Sounds to me like this guy probably wanted to buy this property and couldn’t. Or had a beef with the PO and is carrying it over to you.

Hope this doesn’t turn into a long term problem for you.

You need to head this shit off before it gets too bad. I would suggest a heart to heart with him. You seem pretty calm about it all but to me it sounds like it's going sideways pretty quickly if he's building a fence right next to your driveway.

I am waiting to see where the survey shows the property line to be. He says he has been there since the house I now own was built in 1972 and stated he knows exactly where the lines are and he may be correct. I am just not sure. Hell I have owned a house in Greensboro for almost 20 years and I could not take you to the four corners of the property. I could probably get close but it has never been an issue.

If the septic line was inspected when it was put in, like it should have been, the inspector would not have approved a line that close to a property line. A line has to be so many feet away from a property line.

Also, how is he getting tomatoes this time of year? Greenhouse?

The farmer has installed the fence where he says is the property line. He has been so kind as to not bust my lines. Still have not hired a surveyor yet. I have a tomato supplier though , Rudd farm is on Hicone Road just minutes from my house. Big pretty tomatoes for 2 dollars a pound. Life is good :D
With the fence he has installed I don't have to cut the grass next to the driveway now. And I am ok with that and if that is the true property line I am cool with that too. I have 1.75 acres here and it may shift to the left or right a little and that does not bother me too much.

Your neighbor sounds like a real dick. Have you considered murder?
You know how you can be in a difficult situation but when you come out of it , things look different , you feel different ? The farmer is probably in his 70s and is a tough old man but he is slowing down fast , he can barely move around . The grandsons are doing their best to learn from him and take over. The grandsons are the ones I will live beside in the future and I have known them since they were maybe 8 yrs old. They would come over and shoot ball with me. They are good young men and I can live beside them and not hold it against them that grand dad was a dick head. Everything will work out OK , we are just in a little flare up right now.

update for anyone who wonders how it turned out. After bout 4 , 30 day notice from the county and some gaps in between I finally had a company come out and put a new tank in and 300 feet of new lines. They virtually eliminated any grass mowing in the back yard as it is all dirt now. And the farmer next door has nothing to hold over my head now. Total cost was 5200 dollars was told that is not bad for a new septic system. Glad it is over now. Didn't realize til now it has dragged on for a yr.
I was making payments on 2 houses so I made selling my house in Greensboro my priority as the county didn't seem to mind me delaying the septic system. I rehabbed the house for about a yr. My realtor had 4 offers in the first 24 hours it was on the MLS with 2 of them over asking price so I told her to shut it down take the high bid. Anyone looking to sell or buy in Greensboro NC , Karen Kimrey with Allen Tate is Top shelf !

Just for comparison, I was recently quoted $3K for a septic system with 150' of lines, in western NC, so since you have twice the lines and are likely in a more urban area, that's probably not too bad a price.

...and the farmer and his nephew who owns the septic company are still laughing their asses off.

I told my wife it just forced us to do something that would need to be replaced anyway in the future. I am almost 50 , so I am hoping to have no more issues with this.
Now turning my attention to a week at White Lake, NC in a about 3 weeks ! Have not spent a week there since 2000. Get to have Melvin's burgers for breakfast !

Bleeduncblue you still a farm bureau agent ? all my stuff is with Farm Bureau but my agent is the agency manager so I feel I have no access to an agent. Any time I call he is busy or on the phone. Thinking about switching to another company.

wow, impressive memory @ElizabethtownHeel. no, i left NCFB after about 20 months when i figured out that they are just a whole life insurance company hiding behind home and auto insurance. the job security came down to selling life insurance and i didnt like that. went to work for an Erie Insurance broker and never looked back. better product (especially once you have $500k+ in assets, speaking from a liability standpoint) ... better overall agents (because they're not spending 6 hours each day pushing life insurance products) and excellent coverages in NC.
