What's the reasoning behind Capel's statement about Giles?

Just have to say - the last couple minutes I saw of the Dook - Lou game.... I sense a slightly different demeanor from Capel vs. Rat when Dook is getting handled. Rat would've been in thermo-nuclear meltdown mode, good for a few phantom call and trips to the line.
I get that Lou's defense is good.... but wow did Dook look lost today. Didn't ever look like a team. Looked like 5 idividual isolation players at half speed on the O end, and looked like 5 guys standing around on D hunting around for which other Dookie to blame when they get scored on.
I've heard they have talent and I'm sure they do. Sure don't look like a TEAM right now though.

I don't know if that's an insult or just stating the truth. From reports I've read many have wondered if he tried to come back too soon
Truth. Giles is a shadow of his old self. I feel bad for the kid but glad he's playing for Dook if that makes sense.

I don't see nothing wrong with his statement. However this is why Giles should've sat out the season. Even Greg Oden tried to advise him to sit out.
Giles should not be playing. Said all along that it was a mistake for him to come back. He is not even playing at full speed. What is going to happen when he goes up high for a rebound and lands on one foot? His draft stock is going down each game. I can't even imagine him doing a dunk like Theo did today. Hate it for the kid, but his camp is at fault letting him play.
Agreed. He's not helping himself or his team playing like this.
He needs rest and rehab.

Maybe Giles should do what some of these guys did during bowl season and go ahead and shut it down for the rest of the year.
Not sure Harry should even be playing, but I am sure that the docs cleared him and that his family had the final say, so it's all good. But playing to protect that knee is a recipe for another injury. I've had one ACL injury and two MCL injuries, so I can relate. I was able to play sports for many more years but at nowhere near the level as I did before. If my ACL injury had occurred as long ago as my first MCL tear(1977), it kwould probably have ended my ability to play any sports again.
To take Capel's statement a bit farther, Harry may never be the player he had the potential to be prior to his injuries. And I hate it for the kid, I really do.
If he wants to play in the NBA that would be the smart thing to do.
Why anyone with a back to the basket game would go to Dook is beyond me. Either these kids get caught up in the hype or they don't bother to watch how a team plays offensively. Coach K has always ran a guard oriented offense with a face up power forward. Most of the time he uses a big man like Zoubek to set screens and rebound. Giles fits the bill as a face up power forward by why Jeter,Bolden and Carter would go to Dook is beyond me. I'll guarantee you that Coach K tries with all his might to try and get Giles,Tatum,Jackson and Bolden to return for their sophomore seasons.
If Giles can make it through the season without another injury, and I truly hope he can because he seems like a good kid, I'll be very surprised if he doesn't declare. Tatum seems to be reluctantly playing his obligatory one year of college and appears to be auditioning for pro scouts at this point. I don't see any way he returns. Of course, I could be wrong.
This rep that duke gets of being 1 of about 4 programs that really help their freshmen get to the NBA ASAP, one of the one & done programs? I have heard so much about how K cares about his players, blah blah blah... Fact is what they are doing with Giles is right now today hurting his draftability much more than it would be if the kid just shut it down for this season.
Yeah, he may have dropped out of the top 10 in the next draft had he shut it down but he is so far playing his way out of the first round right now, creating more questions for NBA scouts than they had to ask before. He needs to shut it down right now or risk the NBA scouts asking if he will EVER be the same as he was before. he has already lost shine that he would not have had he just not tried to play this season and per capel it does not seem to his coach that he will be able to over come that. That means the more he plays the further he slips in the draft and that means millions are flying away from him that do not have to.
Kid needs to shut it down now, get him an agent, and spend his time between now and the NBA combine working on conditioning and strengthing those wheels. be able to show out in the combine with a clear medical report that NBA docs can accept and take what ever spot he can still get. With his current state of play he is not blowing anyone away and he risks another injury every time he comes in a game or even in practice. He does not need to take that risk and if you really cared about him as a player and his future that is exactly what his coaches should be telling him.

Giles is now between a rock and a hard place. First, if it was his intent to stay at Duke another year he should have taken a redshirt year. I do think that K-Rat had something to do with that decision. If Giles would have redshirted, perhaps incoming freshman 5-star Carter would have gone elsewhere. Second, Giles mediocre performance thus far has set him back significantly. To continue to play on the college level only increases his chances of getting hurt again. My prediction is that one team will take a chance on Giles and then sit him for one year. Then he will make his pro debut in the fall of 2018. Sadly, if he hurts his knee again, I think he will follow the same path as Greg Oden.

I agree with that. This is a UNC board. Expect us to trash duke at every opportunity even when it's not warranted. That's what this rivalry is about.
Once again peeps can't resist the thinly disguised trolls! They fancy them selves the guy that embarrassed Pack Nation and will try all they can to disrupt the board. Is it possible that the kid simply LOVES playing bball? (I fully believe ratty and puke are capable of using the kid) But I still remember how much I loved to play and I went through three knee surgeries just to get back on the court. I continued to play into my 50's despite warnings from my doctor! Only a chronic back condition keeps me off the court right now.
I pray disaster does not strike the kid, but if he and his family want to take the risk.....what can I really say?

Back surgery isn't like having emergency gallbladder surgery. I can almost assure you if K was undefeated right now and not having the issues with Giles, Bolden's parents, and Grayson he would be waiting until the end of the season. I personally have no doubts about it. It's who he is. The NCAA will also not count the Duke losses against him, and that's more than enough reason for K to go ahead and help make an excuse for how pitiful he was with these freshman this year.
Hence why he coached 2 days before surgery... is it needed? Yup. Could he have waited? Yup.
Duke is now 7th in the nation while being 9th overall in the ACC. You guys have a tough conference this year no doubt, but that's the kind of crap that makes them despised. The treatment is incredible.

This post is dead on except that tomorrow dook will not be #7. K is a POS, not a LOM, but he's also a genius if nothing else. He has this planned, let Capel wear these losses & if he can rally the troops w/the easier part of the schedule when he gets back, he'll look golden. I can hear the game announcers slobbering on him now, "what a turnaround dook has made since K returned to the bench". News flash, dook was losing at FSU & at L'ville with K or without him, he knew that.
