What's Up with Randolph

First, I think Knox ends up at duke, but that does create a log jam for Trent at the 2 when you consider Jackson/Kennard/O'Conell are all 2 guards and duke is looking to add a PG from 2017. If you add Knox at the wing then all the sudden you have 3 guys already competing for 2 guard time and what if Allen does not wow this season and has to come back? Even if Jackson goes one & done you still have Kennard/Occonnell. Could they move kennard to the 3, maybe but that isn't where he needs to be, 2 very respected talents at the 2 is a problem for a 5 star looking to start and show the NBA he is ready to play now.

If duke recruits Knox as a 4, then he will play elsewhere, the kid is solid that he is a wing and wing only. Sure, he could back up the 4 at times but he is not taking a starting 4 spot and by the way, Carter at duke would be their starting 4 with Bolton at the 5.
Should be no need for Knox to play the 4 at Duke. Even if both Giles and Bolden go pro, Jeter and DeLaurier should be back, along with Vrank and Robinson, plus whoever they get in the 2017 class.

O'Connell could probably back up Knox and they also have White. Sure, White is low-ranked, but if we are counting on low-ranked players as they develop, it's possible that could happen at Duke, as well. Not K's style, but you never know.

My guess is that Knox wants to be sure Tatum is OAD. If Tatum is good but needs an extra year to turn the corner (think Henson), where does that leave Knox as a frosh with Tatum back? I doubt he wants to play in anyone else's shadow.

Well, as I have said, I see kenny as our starting 2 this coming season at some point (not likely game one but could be) and I think it is going to hard to take him out as a starter once he gets his confidence. I do think Justin is gone after this season opening the door for Theo to start and I think by necessity that moves BRob over to the wing to back Theo up. When Theo is done that opens the door for Zion or Hamilton to go head to head with BRob for that starter spot at the wing.

Believe me, I'd love to see Kenny become a starter for us, day 1 or down the line, but you'd be asking him to go from 4 mins a game to 20+. I don't see that happening immediately. And like I said as well, you also have to entertain the idea that he ends up only being a solid glue guy.

If BRob does move to the 3, that opens up a spot for Randolph,

Jackson is more than likely gone, unless he has a mediocre Junior season too (which I don't expect at all). If the buzz is true and Theo explodes, I imagine he'll hold the 3-wing down until he graduates, which like you said, will go to Zion or Hamilton.

So this would be to decide who gets the 5th visit, or am I assuming? Either way, I imagine that's somewhat the case here.

Yep. Knox at the 3 and PJ at the 4.

Unless he meant the likelihood of that happening.

Looking like a potential logjam incoming at Duke. I even heard some say that Allen may end up staying all 4 years after he chose not to jump with his stock being hot last year. And I imagine he'll be a stellar Collegiate player but a mediocre NBA player anyway, so he may choose to build that legacy at Duke.

Add in Kennard, O'Connell and possibly Jackson, and things start to look very crowded there. Meaning that one of the elite players potentially on their roster may have to sit, and I imagine whomever that may be, will not go for that.

I agree about Knox too, if they try to get him to play 4 exclusively, he's not going to Dook IMO.

Knox will look at what Tatum does for sure but he will also want to see what Justin does and maybe what kind of season Theo has. If Tatum does not go, which just is not going to be the case but just to speculate, Tatum back = no Knox to duke, Justin back = no Knox to UNC, Theo having a great season could = no Knox to UNC.

So who ya think Dook will sign? That would be something if they whiffed on Trent and Carter. Not sure what would make me crap my pants more - us signing Knox and Washington, or Dook missing out on the package deal of Trent Jr and Carter.

As far as Knox potentially playing the 4 at Dook, I would just look at their last two 4's, Ingram and Winslow. They are prototypical 3's in college, but K likes to stretch defenses with smaller, more skilled 4's. I don't think it will matter, though, cuz I don't think he ends up in Durham anyway.

ive been reading a bit and are you saying occonnell will impact trent????....knox is def a 3 and is probably being encouraged to watch winslow/ingram and now tatum (although ingram/winslow ended playing the four due to lineup changes and injuries).....no knox, probably means kennard plays the 3 in the probable pg-jackson sg-trent wf-kennard lineup...........w/ knox at the wf, kennard/trent battle for 2g and the other backs up the 2 and 3 while still seeing very good minutes....and yeah carter at the 4 and bolden if he stays and jeter @ the 5........i really like what I see out of the tucker kid and he would be a good get along w/ knox or even a great get if knox goes somewhere else

I got to tell ya, if carter and Trent do not end up at duke, the ENTIRE college basketball world will stop and take in a moment of shock! As for the blow to duke, it would be like Harrison Barnes and Brandan Wright times about 100!

K played both Winslow and Ingram as 3s, he had them both way up top looking first to drive against bigger defenders, Ingram did more fake the drive and take the jumper. Duke played a lot of small ball when Jefferson went down but they used Ingram much more as a wing than a 3.
