I will not argue that Seth is a solid 3pt marksman, he isn't and I have doubts he ever will be on volume shooting. But when ya give me a number like the 3-16, heck that looks like a typical Caleb Love night! LOL Our considered best 3pt shooter this season was shooting what, around 23% for most of this season from trey? What Seth is not going to do is sit outside and pump up a volume of clang bricks from trey, how many games this season has Seth even attempted 5 treys (I don't know)? It isn't that I don't need him taking and hitting treys, it is more that I don't want him or Cadeau taking a lot of treys. Now I will grant, Seth's over all shooting did dip while he was dealing with that concussion. That certainly seemed true to start the season, but is definitely not true now for 3-pt shooting. He's now down to 28.4% - after being closer to 50% early on.
Some may be thinking "that's because of his injury" - but that's not true. Over the 5 games before the injury, he went 3-16 from deep - under 19%.
What we've seen is that Seth can be a good outside shooter. He showed that last year, too, but was timid about it. Early this year, he continued shooting well and seemed much more confident. Watching him last game, he went 2-5 and looked confident to my eye.
To those who wonder, his 2-pt shooting has improved slightly from last year (from 48.5% to 50.6%) and his FT shooting took a big jump (from 66.7% to 82.3%).
Which is to day that I agree that Seth may be "that guy," but he needs to get consistent.
Consider this, who has shown you they are the better scorer, I didn't say shooter, I said scorer, Seth this season or Kenny Williams for his whole UNC career, yet we found a way to win with Kenny didn't we? Just can't single focus on the three point shooting aspect of a player, there is so much more to what we need from a kid. That is my biggest grip about RJ, it seems to most everyone he is a great player because he hits hard jump shots, it was the very same with Caleb Love yet they were most often minus defenders. Seth is the best back court defender we have, one of if not the best back court defenders in the country but add that to his now double digit scoring and we have a guy I have no problem starting beside Cadeau or who ever our PG may be. I love Seth's shot selection, I wish all our guards made good shot selection decisions as consistently as Seth does.
