WOW! This fact totally escaped me and I follow all things Tar Heel like it is a religion, lol! I bet most peeps simply assume he is enshrined! I think this devalues the entire College Bball HOF! I agree with the writer, they should just enshrine him without a ceremony. I volunteer as his acceptance speaker, lol!
I think it is simply that Mike's college career paled in the face of his pro career. I don't think folks really realize how great a player Mike was AFTER his shot that won that Natty as FRESHMAN. Mike was a fantastic player, one of the most radically developed players I have ever seen at UNC from his freshman season to his soph season. But that shot as a freshman was so big that it kind of tainted the rest of his UNC career because he was not able to get a second ring. To this day I hate the out come of that Indiana game, refs put Mike in early foul trouble and it effected him, WAS A NATTY THAT i JUST KNEW WE HAD AND i THINK IT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE PERFECT END FOR MIKE AT UNC.
I think HOFs are for the fans more than the players. The people who are in any HOF already know they're famous and contributed immensely to whatever genre they're associated. They don't need to be reminded of that over and over. It's the people whose lives were forever changed and impacted because of those individuals that create a hall of fame to try and thank them... and, make a little money from it.
i learned this crazy fact many years ago and actually asked MJ about it one time when we were playing golf, he shrugged and said "they can put me in if they want, i'll be on the golf course." and that was that 🤷♂️ it was obvious he didnt want to discuss it. was definitely odd.
