First thread started so bare with me. Just curious if anyone knew the reason for the logo change years back. I liked it better with the ram. Anyone have a clue?

He's probably talking about the two on the right. I love all three logos.

A little something for those who don't like the Navy jerseys.

L to R: UNC Tar Heels football player Walt Pupa, UNC head football coach Carl Snavely, and UNC player Charlie “Choo Choo” Justice, most likely photographed in 1947 during the preseason in Kenan Memorial Stadium, Chapel Hill, NC.

It would be helpful if you would post which two logos you are referring to, because I'm not sure which ones you are asking about.
if I knew exactly how I would. The logo is the 1 with just the Rams head looking kinda angry. From the 80's and early 90's if I remember correctly. That is my favorite 1

Ok. I don't really have any inside info as to why they changed it, but I would be willing to bet it was because of money. People are going to buy some more merchandise if it's got a new logo.

If so, I agree. I hated when we moved to this one:

I never really had a problem with that one. I know a lot of people did, but it was fine with me. I don't really care that much about the ram that they use. I don't think I own anything that has either ram on it. It's either the interlocking NC or the foot.

I guess what it boils down to is I like the logo that we had when I got old enough to really start becoming a fan. Not big on change but I guess the fans from earlier yrs may not like what is my favorite I suppose.

Guys, what are we talking about here? Logos evolve, literally in every single line of business. Coke, evolved. McDonalds, evolved. Mercedes, evolved. The brands have to keep up with the status quo. Like in anything else, graphic design has trends that make their business move forward. You'd be hard pressed to find many college teams that have never changed a logo- and we just so happen to have three main ones....the ram, the Tar Heel foot, the interlocking NC.

We've even gone as far as to take the traditional North Carolina off of our jersey for a spell. Why?

Recruiting and to make the kids happy. Part of being in college athletics is doing what's cool. Part of doing what's cool is following the trend. Things are going to change, again and again and again and again.

This is common sense, why is it even a question?

Just having a conversation. No need to get bent out of shape.

Traditionally classic and timeless. My favorites as well and I only buy UNC merchandise with any of these logos.

Speaking of which, my biggest pet peeve are anachronistic jerseys created using players who never wore the styled jerseys such as:

Would have loved to have MJ play for us during this era, but yuck!

The interlocking NC in my opinion was a home run change and it should never go away. The Tar Heel foot is classic and although I was skeptical when they removed it from the basketball shorts and went with argyle, I have to say that our university made some very solid changes. When you see that foot, that interlocking NC and that argyle, you know who it is. It goes hand and hand with that Carolina Blue; another home run choice.

I still love the old 80s style uniforms. We should wear them on multiple occasions during every season.

Dude, chill. If you don't wanna discuss move along

Since 56 there have been many I have enjoyed.

No one at all is out of shape. It's just a really, really silly thread title. If it was a thread about our logo changes over the years- awesome, I'm down. But why the new logo when we don't actually have a new logo is a little confusing.

But I assure you- ain't no one upset on my end. I simply answered the question logically.

Everybody has their favorite logos or different jerseys over the years.
My personal favorite is the strutting ram & the 80 style jerseys.
I also like doing the alternate jerseys we've done the last few years. Love the platinum & black jerseys we've used.
What I don't understand is why get on a thread & attack it because you don't like it or agree with it.
Just simply ignore it & go to a different thread. We're all here for our love of Carolina.

Or maybe you should take your own advice and if you don't like my post ignore it and move on.

I've been here going on two decades and am a former moderater and have NEVER had a reputation for being a negative poster. I happen to work in the field that's being discussed and the thread title and original post make no sense. Period. End of discussion. Once again, I simply answered logically.

Pretty much every other poster that has replied has said the same exact thing I did, so maybe you should work on your approach.

I welcome you to the board and am far from an asshole- most of the longtime posters here will acknowledge that.

I work in graphic design and was genuinely confused by your initial post. We don't have a new logo. Further- even if we did- graphic design evolves, and that is common sense. That was my answer. Not sure why it offended, but sorry if it did.

Hope you enjoy your time here.
