Why Would A Player Want To Come To UNC?

After seeing all the portal action I just had to sit back and ask myself why would any top player want to come to UNC?

Is it because we have a great coach with a proven record? (Anyone that says yes GMAFB)

Do we have a great staff that is known for developing players at all positions?

Do we have a track record of developing or using either offensive or defensive schemes that can showcase individual players skill sets?

The news of EC and Wash entering the portal, although not really surprising, may be nothing other than testing the waters or it may be a sign that even somewhat marginal players no longer wish to play at UNC for whatever reason (coach/staff).

The spring visits taking a player through the quad where coeds were frolicking and sunbathing used to be enough.

To add to this: How many first round draft picks has Carolina had under Hubert? That absolutely matters to kids.

The basketball, the coaching, the current status of the program, the exposure of playing in the sweet sixteen, contending for titles, the chance to beat dook… well, they are no longer selling points

I agree and ask those same things . No more Roy Williams,Steve Robinson with a proven development and sending players to the next level. I personally don’t think our Bench coachs are the best we can get. The Hubert era expects kids to come to UNC because of the history and the name. Those days have changed they want money , fame and pushed to the next level quickly.

This NBA season, UNC has 6 guys that have played at least 10 games in the NBA. Duke has 11. I stopped counting Kentucky after 20.

I don't even remember the last time UNC had a player in the All Star Game. It was probably mid 2000's with Vince Carter.

It's a problem. I'm not sure how much of a priority it should be. But it is a problem.

Truthfully the purge of the roster was needed….Just from things about players and family…..I am still pulling for Hubert man….I have been hard on him but maybe Year 5 is it….

They can put together a better team than we had last year by just getting the measurables correct

The roster was flawed sometimes 3 6 foot guards with short arms and JWash on the court at the same time

I can almost guarantee it will be better

Players that start every game, of the year done leave if they have confidence in the coaching staff, to improve them and get them to the next level.

anybody that takes off the Carolina historical goggles, would be hard pressed to pick any great reason to come to UNC under Hubert Davis' leadership.
