WSJ: Pending charges at top basketball programs

So evidently the ncaa didnt know all this? Wow this makes them look real bad. Felony corruption right under their very noses while they spend 5 yrs investigating easy courses at unc.
That's an interesting thought. If it can be proven that they knew about it, but did nothing that could help us in court. Just another example of how they don't follow their own rules.

I hate it for louisville cause i realy like their fans. But damn they are so so fuked. I bet we’ve seen the last louisville bball game for several years.
Agreed.

Right. Another great thing for Carolina to come out of this. Not only will our shit look like child's play in comparison to everything the FBI reveals, but it will also show the NCAA to be totally incompetent. That might make them leery of handing down sanctions that would force us to court. I'm sure they don't want to be shown up by us too.

Yeah, I agree if anything this is good for us. It also looks like the schools really are byproducts here and not directly involved. Adidas apparently was paying but telling the schools none of that was going on, correct?

Well thats why i’m uneasy. The schools did seem to be innocent by products of people “having a price”. That could happen anywhere. Including here or dook.

True

100k to commit!

And, you KNOW he's not the only one.
It hinges on if UofL knew about it though. It is possible that they didn't know. It makes sense from adidas' standpoint:

Pay a recruit $100K to commit to any of adidas' top-tier teams so that he can be seen wearing their shoes.

Louisville could very well be involved but keep in mind other schools and coaches were explicitly named, and Louisville hasn't been (so far).

This is the perfect example of why these guys should be allowed to make their own money. A lot of these guys could make a hell of a lot more than 100k by endorsing a product and selling autographs. You wouldn't have to worry about a shoe exec giving them money to go to a school.
Exactly. College sports needs to go to the Olympic model. Let athletes make their own money.

What? No. This is great for us. Everything about it is great for us. The timing is perfect. Once all of this is exposed, the shit that went on at Carolina will be seen as innocent mistakes.

As for our recruiting, I think it's pretty obvious we don't play the pay game. Either that or we're consistent lowballers.

Ya, this is perfect as long as we don't get named. Gonna be tough to sell a guidance counselor advising a student on class selection as an impermissible benefit when a kid on another team got $150K cash. This pretty much shows the NCAA has a "lack of institutional control" themselves.

This has to be the dagger for Slick Rick. He's slithered his way out of a lot in the past - but I can't see him getting out of this one.

I could care less what happens to UL. If Slick Rick was part of this, then he deserves what he gets. If not, let them be and let's move on.

Personally, I don't think there were many out there who ever believed this kind of thing wasn't going on, so exposing the dirty programs for what they were doing is fine by me. I don't think Roy or any of his assistants were part of such shenanigans, so I hope this will help clean things up and bring it back to where it should have been all along. Cynic in me doubts that will ever happen, but you never know.

Now, if moo and dook get caught with their hand in the cookie jar and get hammered, well, that would be just fine by me. Let them both spend the next howevermanyyears on probation/digging out that they have to and let them suffer whatever the worst fate possible they can get slapped with.

Screw both programs and everyone who is associated with them, their fans and anyone else who even marginally pulls for them even on a limited basis.

Going to pose this hypothetical question. Radar is already breaking out the champagne because some believe dook and uk are next. Let's say dook was guilty, would they be touched? I mean K is an Olympic champion, most wins ever etc.

Absolutely they would. This is the FBI we are talking about. Their goal is to get the big fish. Doesn't get much bigger than duke. That's one of the reasons I have a little concern about us. If I'm one of the little guys being charged I'm considering saying duke, UNC, UK, etc are all involved even if they aren't. Some of these guys are looking at 20 years in federal prison.

I understand what you are selling and I hate to bring politics into this but there are so many dirty politicians out there that are basically untouchable. I kinda think K may be untouchable.

Maybe by the NCAA, but the feds are a different story.
