UNC Memorabilia

I'm sure it would be a mess.

I've got 3 framed prints from an artist that did these sort of cartoony-caricatures of 2 of the basketball teams and one football team, the 81-82 champions, same era football team with Kelvin Bryant, and the 82-83 basketball team. I don't know if he was an artist from the Triangle or what.
Dale E Dodson...

The 82 team looks like this:

These prints were for sale in a sports-shop- sold all kinds of sports gear and stuff (Tarrytown Mall! Rocky Mount NC). I even have the Rawlings UNC Football helmet. It was "full contact" with the two-bar facemask for kids... kinda like this (only this is Riddell, much better):

I've got that same print! But yours has held up better than mine.

Also a print someone sketched of Amos Lawrence's helmet and Jersey.

ACC Barnstorming Tour

It could be selective memory, but I remember Jeff Lamp loved baseline jumpers and never seemed to miss them--against UNC, anyway.

This didn't happen during this "All Star" game, but I have a memory of Eric Kenney getting a dunk on a fast break and hanging onto the rim too long and actually bending the rim. I guess it was before break-away rims. I can't remember if they played out the half with UNC having to shoot on a bent rim, or they stopped the game to replace the rim.

ACC Barnstorming Tour

I'm sure some of you are old enough to remember when ACC basketball seniors would do a barnstorming tour of NC high schools after the season ended? I think it happened more than one year, but I went and saw them in 1981. Only UNC, Duke, NCSU, UVA, and Clemson were represented, so they included some Davidson players to fill out the squads.

Here were the teams:

Gold: Al Wood, Mike Pepper, Pete Budko, Eric Kenney, Craig Watts, Todd Haynes (Dav,) and John Gerdy (Dav)

Blue: Jeff Lamp, Lee Raker, Terry Gates, Marc Iavaroni, Gene Banks, Kenny Dennard, Frank Johnson, Will Singleton, Chuck Dahms, and Larry Nance.

Afterwards they hung around to sign autographs. All the kids were mobbing anyone who just looked like a player. I think I got Al Wood's brother's autograph. LOL.

My program says the coaches were Gene Banks and "Bones" McKinney. I guess Banks was a player/coach and McKinney coached against his former team, though I think he actually graduated from UNC--or at least he played there one year.

Bones is a legend. He played some at Carolina but later ended up coaching Wake Forest, and then did color commentary on ACC BB broadcasts. He was a likeable, homespun character.

You mentioned another character I had forgotten about. Frank Johnson, played for WF. The details are cloudy anymore but I remember that he was one of those players that really loved to kick it into high gear against us and that we really loved to see get a personal hard time for doing so. Just one of those fun special rivalry deals from the good old days of ACC BB.

"How the Republican Party that I used to know and love up to 2015 fell for this Snake Oil salesman I will never understand."

I agree with this 100%

of course you do, because you're an idiot. Only an idiot would offer nothing more than 'snake oil salesman' and 'orange man bad' as reasons for helping an incompetent REALLY screw us.

Only an idiot could claim to have known and loved the republican party and then compare what Trump actually did in office and compare that to what the alternative has wrought, and then not see (or admit) who really fell for the snake oil. YOU fell for the actual snake oil and helped foist it on the rest of us.

I will never understand the mindlessness required to ignore reality in order to cling to an irrational, unsubstantiated condemnation of a much better choice than what we are now dealing with. I think you and those like you just won't admit your mistake and don't realize how stupid you sound trying to justify it.

So is...

Chapel Hill's forecast this Tuesday: Prepare for a 'Lubin-tastic' day! With Ven-Allen Lubin in town, expect sunny skies, a slight chance of rain from rival recruiters shedding tears, and a high probability of Tar Heels fans doing the happy dance. It's a 'Ven-sational' day to be a Tar Heel!

2024 Transfer Portal Thread

Ugonna Onyenso, Baba Miller, and Arthur Kaluma were not called up to the NBA Combine. So that's 3 big men who may very well pull out of the NBA draft and focus on finding a transfer school.

Caleb Love is another guy who was at the G League Camp and didn't receive a Combine invite. Will be interesting to see if he returns to Arizona or continues to stay in the draft.
