Carolina vs Boston College gamethread

Some people may dismiss rankings but that number next to our name has completely changed the way the announcers talk about our team.

Thank goodness for that interception. This looked more like a loss. Definitely not a Top 20 team.

The difference in the game, the major determinant, was the two OLs. By that I mean that BC's OL did a very good job of keeping the UNC front 7 off the QB, allowing BC's offense to stay in the game, while the UNC OL had enough miscues and lackadaisical plays to keep the BC D in the game.

I could only listen to it on the TH Sports Network radio. It definitely sounded like the UNC O and D lines were hurting. The penalties were horrible. I hope that Storm Duck is okay!!!

We certainly aren’t the 12th best team in country right now. That being said we are young in key spots and had 2 weeks off after an opening win. That’s not ideal but neither is the world we are living in. We will get there.

Game was not the prettiest but a win is a win. Also, BC has had games the last 2 weeks so the rust on UNC should have been expected. I'm hoping that the passing game will be able to find some rhythm and the careless penalties will end with getting into real games consistently. This just felt like one of those games that last season we lost by a few points at the end - nice to see being on the good side of the scoreboard.

Hopefully, most of what we saw that was detrimental was about rust, and another week of practice will get it removed.

The passing game is not hitting on long balls, and that is troubling. Is something wrong with Newsome? Last year, when he would get open in mid-range, it opened the field for Brown and for him to catch a deep ball.

Have DCs figured out what Longo did last year and begun to adjust, taking it away this year? If that is the case and Longo cannot adjust, then the offense could get more and more bogged down as the season goes on. An OL that is thin and that keeps making mental mistakes and that at its very best is good for spurts but not for whole games means we cannot plow over good Ds, and it means that great Ds could just stop us and destroy us if the long ball is not being hit.

It is too late to do anything about the OL this season. It is not too late for Longo to figure out that using the TE much more can open the field for Newsome, even if he is banged up a bit, and that then can mean long balls start to open more often and more quickly.

BC has a sound D, as it has for years. But BC does not have near the talent on D that Pitt, ND, and Miami have.

Another penalty that let them out of the dog house... Defensive holding with them backed up into their own end zone. This was the drive after we shot ourselves in the foot again to start the 2nd half on 3rd and 3 in possible 4 down territory.

Teams are playing UNC different, not that hard to see. Wouldn't say the offense can't adjust, just need to take what the D gives them. Thus far, opponents are playing 2 deep and forcing UNC to methodically go down the field. If that continues, just run the damn ball which will open up the play action and more explosive big plays.

BC- Carter- 7.6 ypc Williams 5.2

The offense has scored 57 points and 864 total yards in 2 games. All that while not completing any passes over 20 yards. Cut down on the turnovers, penalties and we'll be in good shape.

In regards to your comment about Pitt, ND and Miami and their defenses. The Pitt corners got abused on Saturday against State and as far as Miami and ND -- UNC has a long time until those two games to get better and adjust to the new defensive schemes they're facing.

Pitt corners got abused by moo's mediocre receivers , when you give up 100 receiving yards to Emezie and over 300 to QB Leary , you had to be overrated.

I saw parts of the Pitt-Moo game, and I wasn't able to figure out how receivers kept getting open. Surely the Wufs are not that good.
