I think if Jerry Stackhouse played for Washington and had the exact same basketball career and timeline that he’s had, you wouldn’t have mentioned his candidacy on this thread.
In fact, if he didn’t play for UNC and had the same career and timeline after college and he were mentioned as a candidate for UNC’s HC position… Would you criticize his candidacy? I think almost everyone would. Or they would at least be like “that’s weird. Why him?”
So while I’m sure his UNC connection isn’t the only factor, I think it’s clearly a factor and probably a significant one.
If he would he a genuine candidate without any UNC ties, it’s kind of a random candidate.
Oh calm down DaveChapelle of course BI’s son is not ready to play ball! damn! My whole point is that Stack has both conventional and non conventional connections that he can tap into. Like it or not Stack is in a circle of nba friends that most coaches only dream about and yes that includes the aau circut. No one hates Jerry. I do however hate how you have absolutely nothing at all to back up the claims you have made in this thread. You're just throwing out absolute nonsense.
For Pete's sake... "That means BI Jr is just about ready!" Ingram has one son, who isn't even 6 years old. Ingram barely even dated the mom (who has a child with another NBA player.) This is what your argument for Stackhouse has devolved into??? A child Brandon Ingram barely sees, and Stackhouse "knows people that knows people." That's why Stackhouse should be UNC's coach?
You're either high off your ass, or this whole thread was a troll job.
No one hates Jerry. I do however hate how you have absolutely nothing at all to back up the claims you have made in this thread. You're just throwing out absolute nonsense.“He’ll never be UNC’s coach!”
WOW that’s such a strong statement you make for Jerry Stackhouse. It would’ve been best if you had just said it from the gettiup though. I truly don’t understand why so much hate for JS. Why people choose to equate his passion for basketball to ‘punching’ opposed to him being a professional like everyone else is beyond me.
Yes I meant BI, and so what it was 10years ago? That means BI Jr is just about ready! Stack AAU linkage is real my man…he knows people that knows people. I’ll much rather have that in my toolbox than not. Just saying!
“He’ll never be UNC’s coach!”AI?
Do you mean BI? Brandon Ingram? That was 10 years ago man. He knew Ingram from Kinston. He literally coached Ingram in AAU. He was Ingram's mentor. That has nothing to do with anything recent.
So basically you have to go back 10 years ago and use a very rare situation to find any evidence that Stack's "brand resonates well with today's recruits"?
This isn't 10 years ago man. There isn't a 5 star recruit in any upcoming class that considers Stack a mentor. Recruits today never saw him play in the NBA. Recruits today never played AAU ball for him. Recruits today only know him as the coach with the losing record from Vanderbilt. And if you think our alumni have been cheap with Hubert's NIL money, they'd be in even worse with Stackhouse. He's more likely to punch a booster than beg them for money.
Every analyst I've seen thinks Stack is a better fit in the NBA than college. They were shocked he took the Vandy job. He won a damn G League championship. He'd already be a NBA head coach by now had he never taken the Vandy job. He's not a good fit as a college coach, especially in the NIL era. He'll never be UNC's coach, and I doubt he'll ever coach college again at all.
I think if Jerry Stackhouse played for Washington and had the exact same basketball career and timeline that he’s had, you wouldn’t have mentioned his candidacy on this thread. Please stop assuming my opinion is solely based on his affiliation with UNC! That’s not true! It’s his total resume which just happens to include great UNC accolades. Vandy was obviously not a gd fit but for some reason that seems to be everyone’s grenade when it comes to Stack. It’s all about recruiting and nobody was ever going to go play for Vanderbilt lol.
I don’t believe HD was terrible pic, however i thought it was a big mistake for him to hire only UNC alums to be on his staff. I didn’t like that at all!!
AI?Do you think AI would have chose dukk if Stack was UNC’s coach? Stack routinely break bread with other NBA players, he has most of them on speed dial! And guest what all NBA players have at home? Tall sons! Facts.
Again, nobody wants to play for vandi so cut it out lol
Why is Stackhouse a candidate to you if he had no UNC ties?YES! I was on the Wes train but now am firmly in the Stackhouse camp if Hubert doesn’t get this figured out. I know Hubert is a man of faith & I pray that his prayers are answered for this program. If he doesn’t get the ship righted then it was not in the cards for him.
Ok, I’ll put it this way. I’m going to take a random college basketball coach. Brad Underwood. I will ignore where Brad Underwood played and if he has any dirext connection to UNC. He doesn’t. So I’m now going to compare their coaching experience. Brad Underwood won NCAA Tournament games with Stephen F. Austin (another school that doesn’t get good recruits). So IMO, that makes Brad Underwood a much more qualified head coaching candidate.Hmm..gonna wash away all UNC accolades from his resume, is that what we doing? No sirrr…those are all major pluses! How about we consider the total, and instead of subtracting from the total.
1. Outstanding player for UNC!
2. Graduated from UNC!
3. From NC!
4. NBA lottery pick
5. NBA-G coach
6. NBA assistant coach
7. College coach experience.
8. Very strong linkage to big time recruits (again nobody wants to play for Vandi so stop it!).
