Hubert Davis

Honestly I think one recuits commented might be the only reason why he will get another year i think that's the dumbest most nonproductive way of thinking ever but if it takes us losing Wilson to get Hubert gone I'm on board.

Anything that happens good on the court will be in spite of Hubert not because of Hubert.
If I am Wilson I would be rethinking the whole thing…Poor kid will be playing the 5 with 4 guys on the floor 6’6 or smaller…

Very quick stuff (Clemson game)...

I was mainly upset with how UNC refused to guard that game. They never felt UNC the entire game. It was one of the softest defensive performances you can imagine. I know it's not really UNC's culture to be defensive minded. But yesterday was alarming how easy it was for Clemson. Clemson's obviously a good offensive team and they execute well, but UNC also never appeared to try to give some resistance all game.
That isn't true, we actually started that game defending pretty darn well, JWiith started with Lubin, we had some size to start the game with and JWit defended pretty darn stout. I didn't like Lubin's slow close outs on Larkin, you just don't give Euro big men wide open looks from straight on and dare them to shoot, they are well taught to hit that straight away trey. But other than that we defended solid up to the point that Jackson went brain dead, they burned us foir what was it, 3 or 4 trips down court where they scored and we didn't, hole was dug. You could almost see the wind come out of our sails for the rest of the half. We got shot clock violations on Clemson as well as last second desperation shots due to the shot clock being close where they got very fortunate bounces in from treys or bailout fouls very late shot clock.

You do realize RJ averages right at 4 assists per game right? And as Gary used to do, has several blown assists by literally every big man two ft from the rim, as does EC btw.
Well I would hope that a guy that draws constant doubles and at time triple teams efforts from the other team would be able to find open teammates. When RJ is LOOKING for those assists great, that is what I want him doing, that is not my concern, my concern is when he stops looking for his mates and goes 1 on 1.

Maybe it is just me but I simply do not like watching RJ lead us back to a half court offense, stand up front and pound the ball in to the court for 10-15 seconds and go one on one against multiple defenders that are waiting on him. This team is not built in a way that allows 1 guy to take over our offense, it is built in a way that MUST center on moving the ball effectively and spreading out the scoring so that the defense has to respect 5 guys as scorers, not stop one and our whole attack is done.

In a strange twist, very popular meme going on right now is FIRE HUBERT, yet what I am saying in reference to RJ is that I want Hubert to rein him back in and I don't see him doing that. For RJ's UNC career, any time he is in as our PG the tempo slows to a half court game, I want our pace up no matter who the PGis, Hubert has not told RJ to keep the pace up or if he has RJ does not listen, I have a problem with that. But why is it that those involved with the fire Hubert meme get upset when I dare to question RJ and Hubert tolerance of his slower pace?

I do not like the way this team is constructed, I don't because it takes away any margin of for error we may have. I would hope there is no one here that wants to argue that they like the way our team is constructed for this season. But we all knew how this team was constructed before practice #1 was held, at some point you have to move on to the fact that we have to do the best we can with who we got. This team had talent enough to win even with the limitations put on us by being so small and not filling that void thru the portal but it's ability to absorb mistakes was greatly reduced. What a small team simply can not do is find itself in a half court slow tempo game AND have poor jump shooting and yet that is how we are playing. Even with that, a team can still win but the ball movement and player movement has to be really strong and our's is not and it gets even worse when we have a guard that is taking on himself to "save the day", that doesn't dig us out of a hole, it digs the hole deeper. RJ is talented, he could help us in my view more by being 1 of 5 more than trying to be 1 on 5.

Lack of size

For everyone that keeps saying we lack size..
It's not a lack of size. It's mostly a lack of big man talent.

Lubin can't catch passes, and he can't play defense at all.

Washington is plenty tall and long. But he's extremely weak, and he can't play defense at all.

Claude is basically a poor man's Lubin. Smaller, worse hands, but he does try very hard.

Brown should be redshirting. He's a 3 star freshman who can't do anything except foul.

Withers is the only big on the roster with the talent to wear a UNC jersey (athleticism, good hands, good lateral movement on defense.) But he has the basketball IQ of a potato despite being in his 6th year of college. 99% of his games are him making 1 or 2 good plays, and then making a ton of dumb mistakes.

In hindsight, HD's first season didn't look so bad after all (of course that includes the magical run at the end of the year). But holy crap we are looking worse than two years ago, which seemed unthinkable at the start of the year.

RJ got picked by his own man on that play and even then idk if he catches that pass. It was out front. But you are right they have ran that a lot. But I do think it’s bs to call RJ out for savior mode. If he would have been guilty then the box score would have reflected it. During that stretch, you are referring to their starters were in. They subbed in three bench players one which hasn’t even played when we finally got to make a short run. You looked for an out for two of EC turnovers, but you didn’t notice RJ getting ran out of bounds for his. I understand it. We will never agree on what you see in RJ‘s play.
Bama, we have run that circle cut with RJ all season and RJ has fought thru to get to the spot most every other time, it is an anticipation pass from Cadeau, most often a look away pass. RJ simply did not fight thru.

What I see, feel free to disagree, when RJ goes in to that mode, call it want you want, it kills any on court chemistry we may have. This Clemson game we started off solid, good chemistry, the ball was moving around, RJ was getting some good looks and dropping them but after Jackson seemed to melt down RJ starting going way to much 1 on 1 and out the window team chemistry went. It becomes a Caleb Love flashback, didn't like Caleb doing it, don't like RJ or Jack doing it now.

Hubert Davis

Hubert must step down or face the embarrassment of being fired.

No GM is going to salvage his coaching career at UNC after this season. He has failed to get the most out of players and lost the locker room which in this day and age is coaching death.

The nepotism hire of the work experience family member experiment has failed, time to move on.
I feel the same. If not, Bubba should pull the trigger. When you have lost the team with 8 or so regular season games left plus the ACC tourney... its at the point of no return. Bubba should pull the trigger, elevate Lebo or May for the remainder of the season and continue the coaching search he's already begun. The players need a new voice.

Where Are They Now?

For fun, I was looking up how some of the players we either used to have or targeted were doing this year. In case others were interested, I thought I'd post a basic status of them.

Former Heels:
Caleb Love - Still at Arizona averaging 15.8ppg, 4.5rpg, 3.3apg, a career high 1.4spg and a career low 1.8TOpg. Shooting 30% from 3.
D'Marco Dunn - Playing about 20mpg at Penn State. Averaging 7 points shooting 36% from 3.
Dontrez Styles - Starting at NCST. Regular starter. 10.3ppg, 4.7rpg and shooting 35.6% from 3.
Kerwin Walton - Still starting at Texas Tech. Only averaging 4.6ppg but shooting 40.8% from 3. Starting, but only playing 16mpg. Statistically, not providing much.
Dawson Garcia - Putting up big numbers at Minnesota. 19.8ppg, 7.4rpg and shooting 36.5% from 3.
Will Shaver - Doing nothing. Only played in 9 games this year. Fun fact, this was HD's first commitment as a head coach.
Tyler Nickel aka 5-Piece - Regular starter for Vandy. Averaging 10ppg and shooting 38% from 3.
Puff Johnson - Regular starter for Penn State. Averaging 10.2ppg, 4.4rpg and shooting 30.2% from 3.

Recruits from last years HS class (current college freshmen). Just a couple of names we felt good about at some point.
Boogie Fland (Arkansas) - Out for the season after playing 18 games. Averaged 15.1ppg, 5.7apg (impressive) and was shooting 36.5% from 3.
Cam Scott (South Carolina) - We stopped recruiting him when we got Drake. Playing 12mpg and averaging 2.9ppg. Only shooting 15.8% from 3.
Jason Asemota (Baylor) - Only playing 7mpg and scoring 1.6ppg. Not having a great freshman campaign. I personally expected more from him as a freshman.

Portal players we went after this past off-season.
Cliff Omoruyi (Alabama) - Regular starter for Alabama. Averaging 7ppg, 6.3rpg and 1.2bpg. Not a threat from 3 but shooting 73.9% from the field, which leads the SEC.
Jonas Aidoo (Arkansas) - Underperforming. Started 12 of 20 games averaging only 5.2ppg, 3.9rpg playing only 16mpg.
Ugonna Onyenso (Kansas State) - Only playing 10mpg. Averaging 3.4ppg and 2.4rpg. This is about what I expected.
Coleman Hawkins (Kansas State) - Regular starter averaging 11ppg and 6.8rpg. Shooting 30.9% from 3.
Adou Thiero (Arkansas) - Playing well. Averaging 16.5ppg, 6.2rpg. Shooting well from 2 at 63.5% but not great from 3 at 25.7%.
Maxime Raynaud (Stanford) - We know how he's doing. Leading the league in scoring at 20.4ppg and 11.7rpg. Unfortunately, he was out of the portal as fast as he was in.
Danny Wolf (Michigan) - Playing really well. Averaging a well-rounded 12.8ppg, league-leading 10rpg, and adding 3.6apg and 1.6bpg. Shooting 37.1% from 3 and had one of the nastiest step-back 3's I've ever seen a few game sago (see below).

Not to be a contrarian, but that doesn't sound right. I know we are like 1 and 10 this year but last year we beat dook three times alone. We also beat Tennessee and Michigan state last year, if I remember correctly. I could be wrong because I'm too lazy to go look it up....🤪

OOTB's Political Thread . ..

That would be interesting. The hatred of all things trump often gets in the way of a reasonable take on things. It's the old joke about how Trump could announce that his team had cured cancer and the response would be negative and complaining about how he'd put all the oncologist doctors and nurses on the unemployment lines.
That’s not far from the truth.

Raymond Felton and Theo Pinson point to PG...

I don't believe JWash has the strength to hold his position to get the ball on the block. Seems like he is easily moved off the block and had to start his possessions 5, 6, 10 feet from where you typically want a low-post player starting his moves.

I also don't think that jalen's strength is playing with his back to the basket. Jalen is supposed to be an incredible shooter, even out to three-point land. I'd like to see more of him facing up at the free-throw line, especially when we are facing zone and burying the mid-range jumpers. I think that is his strength.
I agree but I would bet everything i got it's never been tried, not in practice and I'm pretty sure it hasn't in a game.

Maybe he is some kind of ninja with the ball on the block, maybe if he hustles down the floor and gets a pass he can make a move before the defense is ready. Not comparing the two players at all but Antawn Jamison was the goat at getting down the floor and getting the ball on the block before the defense was set.

Its kind of like working on you wife's car that wont crank and you have tried everything else and your son says "does it have gas in it".
