I can't remember, what was Trump running for in 2022? We were talking about Trump, right?

He definitely tends to underperform in polls, bringing in votes that the polls don't uncover. I seem to remember a good example of that in 2016, he was in some election that the polls had him being slaughtered in but if memory serves, that didn't turn out to be the case. It's a little vague, but I seem to recall throngs of liberals looking to the heavens and screeching and sobbing uncontrollably.
I bet some of those crying libs are on this board.

Next Head Football Coach

We need to win more than we need to be "flashy".

A Dave Clawson type approach would work for a period of time. A coach that has had experience at a private or academically elite public to satisfy the administration, build a solid program and still be able to win 8-9 games a year.

Monken has proven himself.
Sumrall might work if he can sustain Fitz's program.
Chadwell, A huge leap from a CUSA school. Would we take a chance on another coach from East Tennessee?
Chadwell has won at every level, but in 1A (FBS) that is just CUSA and Sunbelt. It is a pretty big step up. However, he WINS everywhere, and knows HS football across the Carolinas and VA and into GA and TN very well. He would be certain to start at UNC with good HS coach relationships in the region.

Chadwell is from East Tennessee, but Mack is from Middle Tennessee. For us native Tennesseans, those 3 regions are hard and fast and matter all the time. Mack's home town Cookeville is in the easternmost part of Middle Tennessee but Middle Tennessee nonetheless.

I'm not sure how much UNC ADmin types see Army as academically Elite. In the old days, probably so. Now? Not so much.

Tulane meets the definition. And Sumrall was an assistant at Tulane. He also was the only candidate Tulane wanted to replace Fritz. So far this year Tulane is 5-2. Both losses were to P4 schools: Kansas St (which remains ranked) and to then ranked OU.

Sumrall also checks the box of Experience at Basketball School, as both player and coach. That is important in trying to build UNC football to what it should be.

He has 6 years as an SEC assistant coach.

And then we have the fact that he has only competed 2 years as HC, and he won 2 conference championship and a total of 23 games.

If Sumrall has a specific vision for how to make UNC ACC Champs, he is the guy I would hire.

2022 the Red side didn't underperform in polls. Remember the Red Wave that was a purple knee-slapper? I don't think we can take anything from polls.

Bennett retires at UVA

Who is actually left that would be considered "Old Guard"? Not many left and most of the ones who have stayed would not be called "as good a person as he is a coach" like DES, Roy, TB, and Izzo. Wright & Few maybe but CalSlimy and Self (ish) aren't exactly role models!
I think the only ones retiring or speaking out against the present rules (or lack of them rather) are the good guys. CalSlimy and Self(ish) seem to thrive on the present situation. Heck, they have had lots of practice throughout the years with player payments.

Preseason Rankings: AP vs Pomeroy

It's not so much the precise rankings - which, if you want to be a stickler, you could argue are always crap until the season ends - as it is the relative positions of the teams.

Who here doesn't check the major polls? If you never do, great, that's your choice. But I'd bet most of us do.

Do we check them to know what's "true"? Of course not. We check them because they give us info about teams, including teams we don't follow closely. Plus, let's face it, we also check them to see how we're doing - since we're almost always in those polls.

It's something to look forward to. It's fuel for discussion. It's fun.

What I like about Pomeroy's rankings is that he gives us that info and that fun for all the teams, not just those in the big polls.

And, of course, he's darn good at what he does. Which probably explains why sports journalists seem to be referencing him on a regular basis. Who am I to argue?
I keep up with the NET standings during the season, since that is what the committee uses. As a kid, I paid attention to AP or coaches polls, nowadays it always surprises me when people get a reaction from those polls one way or the other.

No way are prices higher today with Biden/Harris than under Trump.

That lying bitch.

"That lying bitch."

no doubt. And what does she mean by saying that supermarket chains are 'passing along the savings' ? What savings? What she's trying to sell is that they are passing along higher prices from their suppliers, and she postures that she is going to put an end to that by dictating 'price-gouging' terms. She is a Marxist and a moron and a liar. In other words, she's a liberal and an extreme one in every regard.

Some are not playing by the rules? What rules? The ones that exist only in that empty commie skull?

He says pacific. Landings are in the Indian ocean i think... flight path from Launch (texas) heads east.... so why is he talking about US pacific waters?

Overregulation is absolutely a thing. Red tape is common with regulation.

I think you could probably find better examples. The FAA has been pretty lenient with spaceX over the yrs (the launches can be pretty rough on the location ecologically).

US Marine & wildlife certainly wouldn't care about Indian ocean... But if some private company wants to crash stuff into the ocean then I'm FOR environmental and ecological impact. I have no doubt this would be regulation, but I suspect they'd be talking more about endangered species and stuff rather than "sharks". So it just feels like he's being hyperbolic.

ETA: i did some googling, and the US agencies DO care about Indian Ocean with respect to endangered species if the FAA is involved, and it is since he launches from the US. There's a whole bunch of species - specific turtles, specific whales, specific sharks, etc that they want businesses to account for.

I found the pdf... "The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Office of Commercial Space Transportation completed a programmatic Endangered Species Act (ESA) consultation with National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS)Office of Protected Resources (OPR) for launch and reentry operations in the marine environment"

So the gubment wants to protect endangered species... seems like a good thing to me. Red-tape is a thing, but he's getting away with plenty of ecological impact at the launch site, so he should be grateful.
I hear those lithium mines are great for the environment.

a better example might be what I saw him on a video talking about yesterday. I mean, that's when I saw the video, I don't know when the incident took place. But the EPA (I think) fined them $140,000 for dumping on the ground a bunch of gallons of plain old tap water at their launch site, without first having gotten a permit. He pointed out he had no idea a permit would be required, and that a good rainfall would have done the same thing.

I'm an environmental guy so I agree with protecting endangered species and a whole lot more. We are doing so much more to cause those species to have to be protected, that it seems bizarre to focus on something that in terms of probability, has about a snowball's chance of happening.
Agreed, that seems like a much better example of needless red-tape.
