Armando Bacot reflects on UNC basketball career in Tar Heels’ tribute video

Armando Bacot, Tar Heel legend. That was the caption on a post by UNC Basketball’s social media accounts Monday evening. The post features a four-minute video of Bacot reflecting on his time with the Tar Heels, in which he became Carolina's all-time leader in rebounds (1,715), double-doubles (87), and second-most points by a UNC player (2,347). A one-of-a-kind revolutionary regular-season men's basketball event to be staged later this year in Las Vegas will be finalized in the coming weeks. UNC moving Forward

Looks like UNC will be cutting some of the dead weight programs moving forward…Really no other choice and Bubba might have put his foot in his mouth with some of the things he has said…

Really no other choice if you can’t get out of the ACC…

Former UNC DB Giovanni Biggers to use master's degree to help underprivileged kids

Giovanni Biggers looks forward to putting the skills and knowledge he gleaned as part of UNC's Master of Applied Professional Studies?program to good use. Biggers would like to work for, or create, an organization to help underprivileged kids find avenues to higher education. Biggers came to UNC through hard work in the classroom and on the football field. (UNC.edu)

I will be off the grid for a while today

I had to take my wife to ER last night, and today she is having two sugeries: gall bladder and appendix. She had back surgery in March, and the near-death experience 18 monthsago revealed an illness that has flared up a lot since then. She has had a rough go of it, and hasn't worked since January.

So, I am headed to the hospital shortly and will not be on the boards for a while.

And, if you pray, some prayer sent her way would be greatly appreciated. Her name is Kim.

Thank you.

Wasting RJ Davis' final season

Absolutely pathetic job by the staff, and especially the people running UNC's NIL. We need a starting PF and especially a starting C. Most of the top options didn't even visit us. The one guy that did visit chose Alabama (who also took a Tar Heel legacy recruit a year ago.)

We have all this backcourt talent led by RJ Davis, and our entire front court is made up of bench players who are going to get destroyed by most of the ACC.

How the New England Patriots decided QB Drake Maye was their future(ESPN)

Dressed in an off-white suit with a Carolina blue tie, Drake Maye walked into Gillette Stadium for the first time Friday, still wearing a blue Patriots hat from the night before at the 2024 NFL draft in Detroit. Owner Robert Kraft and team president Jonathan Kraft flanked him on each side, as Maye held up a blue Patriots jersey -- his name on the back. (ESPN.com)

Which Starting Lineup...?

I suspect most of us expect this to be the starting lineup, at least early on

Caleb Love
Kerwin Walton
Leaky Black
Brady Manek
Armando Bacot

Some have said they'd rather not have Leaky start. I'm not in that group, but I'm open to different lineups. So my question is, what lineup(s) might be better?

After a good summer some of the relationships might change. If both Caleb and RJ improve a good bit and are working together pretty well, I could see Caleb shifting to SG (on the theory that RJ is too short for SG, and that Caleb could focus more on his shot selection). So how does that ripple through the staring lineup? Do you sit Kerwin - our only reliable outside shooter last season? I don't think so. But what are the alternatives?

RJ
Caleb
Kerwin
Brady
Armando

And then there's this possibility

Caleb
Kerwin
Justin McKoy
Brady
Armando

What other starting lineups do you think might work? And which of them appeal to you most?

ACC Barnstorming Tour

I'm sure some of you are old enough to remember when ACC basketball seniors would do a barnstorming tour of NC high schools after the season ended? I think it happened more than one year, but I went and saw them in 1981. Only UNC, Duke, NCSU, UVA, and Clemson were represented, so they included some Davidson players to fill out the squads.

Here were the teams:

Gold: Al Wood, Mike Pepper, Pete Budko, Eric Kenney, Craig Watts, Todd Haynes (Dav,) and John Gerdy (Dav)

Blue: Jeff Lamp, Lee Raker, Terry Gates, Marc Iavaroni, Gene Banks, Kenny Dennard, Frank Johnson, Will Singleton, Chuck Dahms, and Larry Nance.

Afterwards they hung around to sign autographs. All the kids were mobbing anyone who just looked like a player. I think I got Al Wood's brother's autograph. LOL.

My program says the coaches were Gene Banks and "Bones" McKinney. I guess Banks was a player/coach and McKinney coached against his former team, though I think he actually graduated from UNC--or at least he played there one year.

ACC 2024 College Football Primer: Top Players, Games, Transfers, Storylines, Predictions(CFN)

Posted May 12, 2024
The quarterbacks in the ACC will make the league as much of a must-watch as any. Clemson is set with Cade Klubnik, and SMU has a sneaky-hot NFL prospect in Preston Stone, but the new guys coming in will take the overall play up a few notches. DJ Uiagalelei going to Florida State is a big deal. Tyler Shough is about to have a monster season at Louisville. (College Football News)
