Has any Carolina player in the last 20 years have more pressure on them to perform than Elliott Cadeau?

I say absolutely no. Even though he has never played a game that matters at the Dean Dome and is just a freshman so many have already put unfair pressure and unrealistic expectations on him to be the savior of Carolina basketball 🏀 and to put the team back where they were for so long.

Yes like many others I have been very impressed with his pin point passing and his tremendous point guard skills but I also realize looking 👀 like the next coming of Oscar Robertson against other elite HIGH SCHOOL PLAYERS will be a different than playing against older, more experienced physical college players who have been there and done that.

I feel for the young superstar because as we all know fans don’t want excuses just results and if he gets off to a slow start and is not playing to many of the couch coaches unrealistic expectations they will not hesitate to turn on him.

My hope is with Davis and Bacot leading the team early by example and the talented transfer in players contributing as well that Cadeau will not feel the pressure of thinking like Anthony did as a freshman that he needs to do everything he can to carry the team.

I would hate to be in Cadeau’s Jordans right now knowing ever move he makes good or bad early will be highly scrutinized by the many so called experts and couch coaches that frequently voice their displeasure here.

Yes he may INDEED be the next GREAT TAR HEEL basketball 🏀 player and I for one would luv to see a banner with his name on it hanging in the Dean Dome but as a FRESHMAN it is highly unlikely so even if he is not the messiah hopefully the fans will give him a fair chance to show what he can do on the court.

Again I ask you has any Tar Heel player recently have had so much pressure on them to perform?

ORtg, DRtg - Do These Numbers Tell Us Anything About the Upcoming Season?

ORtg and DRtg make my head hurt, but I keep seeing them so I guess they must have value. Maybe someone here can explain them. There are formulae for calculating them, of course - but that's the part that makes my head hurt.

On sports-reference.com they define them this way. Which seems pretty straight-forward.

ORtg = estimated points produced per 100 possessions (higher is better)
DRtg = estimated points allowed per 100 possessions (lower is better)

So that got me wondering how our new guys compare on these measures with the folks they are replacing. Numbers below are for last season.

Dallas Mavericks Guarantee Reggie Bullock's Contract Ahead of Free Agency

Heading into Wednesday night, the Dallas Mavericks had a midnight deadline to decide on Reggie Bullock's contract. Bullock signed a three-year, $30 million contract in 2021, and the final year of that deal, worth $10.5 million, wasn't fully guaranteed until now. The Mavericks are fully guaranteeing the final year of Bullock's contract ahead of free agency. (Sports Illustrated)

What a difference this Carolina team could be this year if Bacot developed a no nonsense mean streak

Yes I realize a Tyler Hansbrough, J R Reid, Bryce Johnson and even a Mitch Kupchak are hard to find anymore but what a terror Bacot could be if he developed a nasty mean steak where he felt deep in his gut that every defensive rebound belonged to him and that every offensive rebound meant a rim smashing dunk instead of a weak follow up or tip.

Armando is already a elite rebounder but again what a difference it would mean to the team responding to last season’s surprising below Carolina’s average play if he just felt this was his very last opportunity to prove his critics wrong and to let his play speak for itself…

Will the ACC Be Better Next Year?

With most of the dust settled, does anyone have a feel for whether the ACC will bounce back this coming year?

Pomeroy ranked us the 7th best conference last season. Scrolling back, we've been on a slide of late:

2023 - 7th
2022 - 5th
2021 - 5th
2020 - 4th
2019 - 3rd
2018 - 2nd
2017 - 2nd
2016 - 2nd

Pomeroy ranked the ACC #1 in 2005 and 2007. It's been a while.

One of the reasons we sucked so badly as a conference last season was the number of creampuffs in the league. Six of them!

290 - Louisville
205 - FSU
170 - BC
166 - Notre Dame
161 - Ga Tech
118 - Syracuse

At the other end, only 5 ACC teams were invited to the NCAAT, with UVa's #4 being the highest seed and only Miami getting past the Round of 32. The only other team to play in the post season was Clemson, bumped out in the first round of the NIT.

We had some newish coaches. Scheyer did well as a rookie. Hubert backslid in his 2nd year, as did Forbes in his third year. Capel finally got his act together in his 5th season.

We'll have a couple of new coaches this year, following the departures of Boeheim and Brey. Am I forgetting anyone?
