An excellent source very close to the situation said that in an effort to raise more revenue, UNC could seek a sponsor for partial naming rights of the Smith Center. I was told this two weeks ago.
Now, a sponsor like a bank, gas company, or online venture wouldn't be well received at UNC, and a hard sell to the base. However, a
natural sponsor, if there is one, would be the Jordan Brand.
Could you imagine the logo on the court, a massive Jordan Brand logo springing up from the roof of the Smith Center, and Jordan Brand kiosks inside the arena where fans can special order Jordan Brand products? And, think of the NIL opportunuties for all UNC athletes with Jordan Brand.
Now, don't assume this is the full conversation I had, it isn't. But, if UNC is serious about naming rights (that would still include the Dean E. Smith Center in the name), this would make the most sens by a gazillion.
