UNC @ Kansas game thread

Kansas up 27-20 midway 1H.

Takeaways:
- Dickinson having his way as expected
- Transition D with the second unit has been a problem
- UNC has gotten a couple of layups off makes so clearly running has been an emphasis
- Powell and Jackson have made a FG

A general opinion. If Cadeau is on the floor without RJ, EC needs to look to score more.

Game seems a little big early for the second unit.

Postgame Thoughts

A really interesting game. We saw our flaws, we saw some of our strengths, we saw some surprise contributions too.

Love the fight they showed tonight. The frontcourt is overmatched and Hubert has a lot to figure out there. But we saw the blueprint for this team against Q1 teams and that’s get into the bonus as early as possible and wear out the FT line. That will let them stay in games when they’re not making shots.

It’s early but we saw who Hubert trusts in a big game. Last year, we saw Hubert shrink the bench in big games as soon as Cadeau started. Clearly Tyson needs to do a lot to get minutes in big games unless the matchup is perfect for him.

It’s the type of game where I think almost every feeling is a valid one. The first half was alarming in a bad way. The second half was awesome to see this team has some guts and toughness.

Micro, I feel good about having a chance to win this kind of game when RJ and Cadeau combine 1/10 from 3.

Macro, concern for RJ. No longer have a Bacot or Ingram to take some load off in late clock situations. RJ is kind of flying solo in those situations. His efficiency will take a hit this season.

Although Washington is capable of making the shot he took, I want the final minute execution to be better. Too many times over the last 2 seasons where the wrong player took a critical shot or the execution was terrible. You shot 31 FTs. Put the pressure on the defense.

Also too many transition points allowed by the second unit in the first half. I know your freshmen but have to understand floor balance and sprinting back on every play. This team isn’t good enough to be giving up transition points.

Also, its early but we got a glimpse on who Hubert trusts in a real game. Right now it’s 8 dudes. Unless Tyson didn’t play because of the matchup, he will need to earn some trust.

Fun game. It’s a “socrates asks whose bias do you seek” kind of game.
