NC State at Carolina game thread on: Wednesday 19 February 2025

Looks like the game is still on and since UNC is basically still just on life support we all must hope that Carolina does not shoot like the weather outside icy and cold.

Because of the weather I do not expect a full house but the students on campus hopefully will make enough noise that the Tar Heel players will still feel like they have a big home advantage.

The team cannot come out slow like they have so many times this season and fall behind big early. There is no room for error so Carolina cannot play down to its opponent.

• Carolina has won both regular-season games against NC State in 15 out of the last 21 seasons.
• UNC is 168-81 all-time against the Wolfpack, including 83-23 in Chapel Hill (32-7 in the Smith Center).
• Carolina has won seven in a row at home against NC State, dating back to an overtime loss in 2018.
• UNC’s 168 wins against the Wolfpack are the most by the Tar Heels against any opponent.
• Carolina’s 24-point victory was its largest over NC State since defeating the Wolfpack by 24 on 2/15/17.

• Carolina did not trail for the second consecutive game and fourth time this season (Hawai’i, SMU, Syracuse and NC State).
• The Tar Heels established season highs in ACC games in field goal shooting (57.4%), rebound margin (40-21), second-chance points (21) and bench points (43).
• UNC shot 57.4%, the second-highest in any game this season (59.0% vs. American).

• NC State had 21 rebounds, the fewest by an opponent this season. It equaled the fewest rebounds by an opponent in Hubert Davis’ four seasons as head coach (Georgia Tech on 12/5/21).
• Carolina scored 54 first-half points, the most in a first half this season (previous was 51 vs. Elon).
• UNC led by 28 at halftime (54-26), the Tar Heels’ largest halftime lead since a 38-point advantage vs. Florida State on 2/12/22. It was the sixth time Carolina has led by double figures at halftime this season.
• Carolina’s largest lead was 30, its largest in an ACC game this season. It was the third time this season Carolina has led a game by at least 30 (also vs. American and La Salle).
• UNC’s 21 second-chance points were the second-most in a game this season (22 in the season opener vs. Elon). The Tar Heels only scored six second-points on January 11 at NC State.

• Carolina’s 52 paint points were the third most this season (58 in overtime win vs. Boston College and 56 vs. American).
• Carolina doubled NC State’s paint points (52-26). It was the third-largest margin this season (56-16 vs. American and 50-20 vs. La Salle).
• The Tar Heels scored 10 second-chance points in the first six minutes.
• Carolina shot 55.6% in the first half, the ninth time (UNC 6-3) this season the Tar Heels have shot at least 50% in a first half.
• Carolina shot 60% in the second half. It was the third time the Tar Heels have shot at least 60% in a half in the Smith Center this season (62.9% in the second vs. American and 62.5% in the second vs. Campbell).
• The Tar Heels shot 40% from three (made 8 of 20). UNC is 5-1 this season when it makes 40% or better from three.

• It was the third time in the last four games UNC shot 40% or better from three (wins over Pitt, Syracuse and NC State).
• UNC made seven three-pointers in the first half for the second consecutive game.
• UNC is 7-1 this season and 28-2 under Hubert Davis when scoring at least 90 points.
• RJ Davis (21 points) scored 20 or more points for the eighth time this season and 43rd time (UNC 33-10) in his career.
• Davis (2,560 career points) moved into fourth in ACC career scoring. He surpassed Rodney Monroe (NC State) and Johnny Dawkins (Duke).
• Davis scored in double figures for the 25th time this season and 131st time in his career. UNC is 88-43 when Davis scores double figures.
• Seth Trimble scored 15 points, the 18th time he scored in double figures this season. Trimble led Carolina with seven rebounds. It was the second game in a row Trimble was Carolina’s leading rebounder.

• Ian Jackson made multiple three-pointers for the 11th time. UNC is 8-3 when Jackson hits multiple threes.
• Jackson scored in double figures for the 16th time (UNC 11-5).
• Jae’Lyn Withers has made a three-pointer in three straight games for the first time as a Tar Heel.
• Withers made multiple three-pointers in consecutive games for the second time this season (two against Elon and three at Kansas; three at Syracuse and two vs. NC State).
• Ven-Allen Lubin scored 13 points, all in the second half. It was the sixth time Lubin scored in double figures this season. The 13 points were the most he has scored in a half this season. He scored more than 13 in an entire game once (17 vs. Pitt on February 8).
• Cade Tyson hit two three-pointers, his first since he made one on January 1 at Louisville. He hit multiple threes for the first time since December 14 against La Salle, when he made five.
