Campbell-UNC Postgame Notes

UNC 97, CAMPBELL 81
DECEMBER 29, 2024
CHAPEL HILL, N.C.

UNC Scoring Leader:
Ian Jackson 26
UNC Rebound Leader: Jae’Lyn Withers 7
UNC Assist Leader: Elliot Cadeau 12
Team Records: Carolina 8-5, Campbell 5-8

• This was the first time UNC and Campbell played in men’s basketball.
• Carolina is 180-18 against in-state, non-ACC teams and has won 50 in a row.
• Carolina is 232-19 all-time against all non-ACC teams in the Smith Center.
• RJ Davis set the UNC record for career three-point field goals with 303. He came into the game with 298, one behind Marcus Paige (299). Davis made two in the first four minutes to break the record and became the first Tar Heel with at least 300 career three-pointers.
• This was the first time this season Davis made three 3FGs in the first half.
• Davis made a season-high five threes (previous was four vs. Dayton). It was the 30th time in his career he made four or more and ninth time he made five or more.
• Davis has 2,333 career points. Tonight, he passed Jeff Lamp (Virginia) and Mike Gminski (Duke) for 10th place in ACC career scoring. He needs 15 points to pass Armando Bacot for second place in UNC career scoring.

• It was Davis’ fourth 20-point game this season and the 39th of his career. UNC is 30-9 when he scores 20 or more.
• Carolina played without Seth Trimble, who suffered an upper body injury in practice on Saturday. Trimble had started the first 12 games.
• Ian Jackson made his first college start in place of Trimble.
• Jackson scored a season-high 26 points (had 24 in the previous game vs. UCLA). He is the first UNC freshman to score 20 in consecutive games since Cole Anthony had 25 at Syracuse and 28 vs. Wake Forest in 2019-20.
• Jackson is the 10th Tar Heel freshman to score 24 or more points in consecutive games and the first since Anthony in 2019-20. The others include Coby White, Harrison Barnes, Tyler Hansbrough, Rashad McCants, Antawn Jamison, J.R. Reid, Phil Ford and Al Lifson.
• Elliott Cadeau had his first career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 12 assists. His previous high in assists was 10 last season vs. Tennessee.

• The 12 assists were the most by a Tar Heel since RJ Davis had 12 vs. Marquette in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament in Waco, Texas.
• Davis and Jackson are the only Tar Heels to make three-pointers in each game they have played in this season.
• Jackson and Drake Powell both started, the first time multiple freshmen started since the 2021 NCAA Tournament vs. Wisconsin (Caleb Love and Kerwin Walton).
• Jalen Washington scored 10 points, the second time this season (18 vs. American) and seventh time in his career he scored 10 or more. UNC is 6-1 when he scores in double figures.
• Carolina shot 62.5% from the floor in the second half. It was the fourth consecutive game the Tar Heel shot at least 56.5% from the floor in the second half and the ninth time in 13 games UNC made at least 50% of its shots from the floor in the second half.
• UNC shot 57.1% from the floor for the game. UNC is 5-1 this season and 28-1 in the last four seasons when it makes at least half its shots from the floor.

• Carolina was 12 for 14 on two-point field goal attempts in the first half (85.7%) and 4 of 17 from three (23.5%). Combined, the Tar Heels shot 51.6% from the floor in the opening half, the fourth time this season UNC shot 50% in the first half.
• The Camels shot 31.4% from the floor in the first half, the lowest percentage by an opponent in a first half this season.
• Carolina had 20 assists, the third time this season with 20 or more (22 vs. Elon and La Salle).
• The Tar Heels committed only seven turnovers, fewest since making five at Hawai’i in the fourth game.
• Carolina is 26-2 under head coach Hubert Davis when it scores 90 or more points.
• It was the final game of 2024. The Tar Heels went 28-10 in the calendar year.
• Colby Duggan led the Camels with 32 points. He is the 17th different player to score 32 or more vs. Carolina in the 40-year history of the Smith Center. His 32 points tie the fifth-most by a player on a mid-major team. They were the most in the Smith Center by a mid-major since Davidson’s Brian Sullivan scored 33 in overtime on 12/21/2013.

Next Game: at Louisville, Wednesday, January 1 (6 p.m., ACC Network)
