Respect to UNC

First off, I'm a UK fan, but this post isn't about last nights game.

Last year I was down in North Carolina for work, and decided to visit Duke's campus to see Cameron and UNC's campus to see the Dean Dome.

First I went to Cameron and it is a really cool looking building even though it's small. Actually all of the buildings there are really cool looking gothic style buildings, anyways, the people there were so unfriendly it was shocking! I smiled and said hello to every person I encountered and not one person even acknowledged me.

After that I visited UNC's campus and Chapel Hill is a really nice place! The arena is big, much like Rupp, but there's nothing that sticks out about it. Anyways, the people there were SO nice!! Very down to earth and friendly. I chatted and talked basketball with several people and they are very much like my friends here in Kentucky.

After that visit, my dislike for UNC really lessened, and my hatred for DUKE really intensified!!

So yeah, respect to UNC and F#@K dUKe!!!!

Everyone is eligible, the slippery slope of suing the NCAA

So all Tar Heel fans know the battle to get Tez Walker eligible. Most of you probably know that lots of 2-time transfers have also been ruled ineligible and chose to fight it, even when they didn't meet any of the exceptions like Tez did. Well thanks to the playbook used on behalf of Tez (suing the NCAA for anti-trust violations) the NCAA has made a deal to grant eligibility to all 2-time transfers for the rest of the sports season. Even guys who clearly should be ineligible due to the rules all the schools agreed on... are now eligible.

You see where this is headed right? NCAA rules no longer matter as long as you have a lawyer willing to sue claiming anti-trust violations. The NCAA has shown it is definitely going to back down. Think about the upcoming pandora's box. Players didn't make the grades? Sue and he's eligible. Player has transferred 3 times? Sue and he's eligible. Player has been playing professionally? Sue and he's eligible. Dook needs a real center for the NCAA tournament, they drop $500k on the kid at WVU to get him to transfer in February, sue and he's immediately eligible.

I just don't see how the NCAA can even exist going forward. We now know their rules mean nothing. And I say this as someone who celebrated Tez being eligible.

UCLA coach Chip Kelly

On how to 'fix' this horror show of conference destruction.

"Kelly's solution includes establishing a conference commissioner and having football break away from other sports, something he has advocated for in the past. As conferences such as the Big Ten, SEC, Big 12 and ACC keep adding teams from, in some cases, both coasts, Kelly's ideal scenario is for a version of independence that leads to consolidation.

"I think we should all be independent in football," Kelly said. "You can have a 64-team conference that's in the Power 5 and you can have a 64-team conference in the Group of 5, and we separate it and we play each other."

Kelly said he believes there should be one TV contract that includes every conference, where potential regional divisions are sponsored by brands and the overall media offering is stronger and more appealing to potential TV partners."

Kentucky vs UNC game thread for Saturday 16 Dec 2024

When two evenly Blue Bloods play on a neutral court where it is anybody’s guess who might win there are some things to think about: Both teams have not played in a while. Kentucky relies a ton on three point shooting while Carolina relies a bunch on Bacot and Ingram down low. Kentucky is pretty young while UNC has a bunch of upper class men. Carolina is awful stopping three point shooting and the Wildcats live and die from the three point line. If Ryan and Davis can keep Kentucky honest I like Carolina pulling this one out..
