Wisconsin Defense (The Longo Effect)

In the winter it was postulated that (Offensive Coordinator) Phil Longo's approach to practice was a big factor in, ironically, why our defense was so poor during games. Longo went on to Wisconsin, and after 5 games, we are seeing the same effect we saw at UNC. Here is Wisconsin's Total Defense rank over the last 8 seasons:

2016: #7
2017: 2
2018: 29
2019: 4
2020: 5
2021: 1
2022: 10
2023: 53

LIVE: UNC Basketball Open Practice Notes

Trey and I are here at the Smith Center.

The interviews are complete - I believe we got each of the scholarship players, plus Hubert - and at 3:30 the open part of practice begins.

I will be shooting some videos, so I may not post any notes until closer to 4. But we get to watch all of practice, so I will get as much stuff to you guys here as I can.

If this is true

it marks the TOTAL stupidity of the ACCC's leadership group.

FAMILY FEUD: The ACC MIGHT BE willing come to a deal with FSU, UNC and Clemson (and maybe one or two others) for buyout before the 2036 media deal runs out, It will be costly but they also feel the in fighting hurts the ACC brand. That is why they are exploring expansion candidates and will run the list past ESPN before any deals are done. This is not going to happen soon but perhaps in time for the next B1G and SEC TV deals. THEY are not going to be the Pac 12 and get Cherry picked an ACC rep told me.

So those leading the ACC would prefer to cover over any ACC in-fighting , because that would hurt the brand, than to do the hard work of forcing everybody to see the handwriting on the wall and take the only steps that could save the ACC at full, or nearly full, strength. They are willing to just give up on keeping the few most prized members and so look all pleasant while the ACC name survives as a non-Major conference.

Damned fools of the basketball-first mentality.

And what is the only move that could save the ACC at full or nearly full strength? Set aside a sizable portion of the TV money and award it based on numbers of TV viewers for football. If that forces BC, Cuse, and Wake to leave, so be it. The ACC replacing that trio with, say, Cincy, WVU, and TCU would improve its football TV viewing a decent amount while aslo improving football quality.
