2005 UNC recruiting

Isiah Denis has good offensive tools, but he was a turnstile on defense in the first game of the season.
That will change at the next level when he gets stronger and is preached defensive approach.
I personally think Derrick Dixon is further along and will play sooner as a Freshman.
Dixon reminds me some of Bobby Frasor. He won't wow you physically but he is constantly making correct plays and the right reads. I think Dixon is probably a better shooter than Frasor was coming out of HS too.
Don't forget Bobby started at pg as a true freshman the year after or top 7 scorers moved on after the 2005 Natty.
The 2006 team was one of the most satisfying seasons I have had watching Carolina basketball, and was Roy Williams best coaching job.

• UNC improves to 6-4 overall, 3-3 in the ACC.
• UNC is bowl eligible for the sixth straight season, which will mark the second-longest streak of
playing in bowl games in Carolina history (UNC played seven straight bowl games from 1992-1998
and was also bowl eligible in 1990 and 1991). UNC will be making its 38th all-time appearance in a
bowl game.
• Mack Brown was the head coach from 1992-97 for the first six of the seven straight bowl seasons
and for this current streak from 2019-24.
• Mack Brown is 113-77-1 as head coach at Carolina. Brown is 288-153-1 all-time, the winningest
active head coach in FBS.
• UNC is 76-10 when scoring 30 or more points under head coach Mack Brown.
• A Tar Heel has rushed for at least 100 yards in the first 10 games of a season for the first time ever.
• UNC improves to 73-36-2 all-time against Wake Forest. The Tar Heels are 45-19-2 against the
Demon Deacons in Chapel Hill.
• UNC has won four in a row over Wake Forest, UNC’s longest win streak vs. Wake Forest since
winning nine in a row from 1990-1998.
• Brown is 12-3 all-time against Wake Forest, including 4-1 in his second stint as the head coach of
the Tar Heels.
• Including Power Echols’ 42-yard return tonight, UNC has returned three interceptions for
touchdown this season. The UNC record for six-picks in a season is four in both 2008 and 2009.
• Carolina has scored five non-offensive touchdowns this season: three interceptions returned for a
touchdown, a blocked punt returned for a touchdown and a punt return for a touchdown.
Offense
• Omarion Hampton rushed for a career-high 244 yards on a career-high 35 carries.

• Hampton passed all-time Tar Heel greats Don McCauley and Kelvin Bryant tonight on UNC’s all-
time rushing list, moving into fifth place all-time. Hampton has 3,327 for his career, Bryant had

3,267 rushing yards and McCauley had 3,172.

• Hampton’s 244 yards tied the 11th most in UNC single-game history and are the most rushing
yards since Michael Carter gained 308 at Miami in 2020.

• The 244 rushing yards tie Ronnie McGill’s 244 in 2003 as the most ever by a Tar Heel against Wake
Forest.
• The 244 rushing yards tie the fifth most by a Tar Heel in Kenan Stadium.
• Hampton’s 35 carries were the most by a Tar Heel since Ryan Houston had 37 against Duke in
2009.
• Hampton is just the third Tar Heel with three 200-rushing yards games in his career. Voight and
Lawrence also had three.
• Hampton has set the “official” UNC record for consecutive 100-yard games with eight. Don
McCauley also had eight straight 100-yard games in 1970, but his eighth was in the Peach Bowl vs.
Arizona State. At the time, bowl game stats were not official stats.
• Hampton has 1,422 rushing yards this season, the fourth-most in a season by a Tar Heel.
• Hampton has rushed for 100 yards nine times this season, the second most in a season by a Tar
Heel. Don McCauley had 11 in 1970.
• Hampton has 18 career games with at least 100 rushing yards, the third most in UNC history.
Lawrence had 25 100-yard games and Bryant had 19.
• Hampton has scored 38 career touchdowns, which ties Bryant and Marquise Williams for fourth
all-time by a Tar Heel.
• Hampton’s 35 rushing touchdowns tie Marquise Williams for third in UNC history.
• Hampton has 228 career points, which ties Bryant and Marquise Williams for 10th in school
history.
• Tight end John Copenhaver had the first carry of his career, but not his first rushing yards, on a
successful fake punt in the first quarter. Copenhaver had previously gained yards on a lateral and a
fumble recovery.
• JJ Jones made his fifth touchdown catch of the season and the 10th of his career. Jones has made
four touchdown catches in the last four games.
• Jacolby Criswell had a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown for the second time in his
career (also did so against Georgia Tech this season).
• Criswell has attempted 145 passes since his last interception, the longest such streak by a Tar
Heel since Drake Maye attempted 195 passes without an interception in 2022.
• Criswell has completed better than 60% of his pass attempts in the last three games.
Defense
• Kaimon Rucker made his 22nd career sack in the second quarter. He has the sixth most by a Tar
Heel. Rucker passed Lawrence Taylor, who made 21 in his three seasons that sacks were official
stats.
• Rucker has six sacks this season, third most on the team. Beau Atkinson and Jahvaree Ritzie lead
UNC with 6.5 each.
• Linebacker Power Echols’ pick six in the third quarter was his first career touchdown, the fourth
interception of his career and first pick this season.
• Travis Shaw made a career-high two tackles for losses and recovered his second fumble of the
season.
• Marcus Allen made the second interception of his career and his first this season.
• Joshua Harris recorded his first sack and tackle for loss of the season and forced a fumble for the
first time in his career.
Special Teams

• Noah Burnette scored seven points, passing Josh McGee for fourth and Nick Weiler for third on
UNC’s all-time points list. Burnette has 275 career points, Weiler had 273 and McGee had 271.
Running back Leon Johnson is second with 306 and place-kicker Casey Barth is first with 358.
