How transfer portal, NIL has dropped value of high school basketball recruits

FWIW
There has long been a credo in college basketball: get old, stay old. It's never felt more true than now, only instead of getting old by recruiting and retaining players for four or five years, teams are trying to get old by adding batches of transfers at rates never seen before. Coaches are prioritizing 21-, 22- and 23-year-olds over the development of freshmen. (CBS Sports)

Lawrence Taylor named to The 33rd Team's best all-time defensive front 7

When it comes to the top defensive players in NFL history, you'd be hard-pressed to find many analysts who would not select Lawrence Taylor among the best. So, it should come as no surprise that when long-time NFL and collegiate coach Dave Wannstedt recently chose his best all-time defensive front seven, Taylor was the first name on the list. Do Carolina players still point to teammates after a great pass that leads to a basket 🧺

I can clearly remember when Dean Smith was coaching how players constantly thanked their teammates by pointing at them showing their appreciation for a great pass that lead to a easy basketball 🏀 hoop.

Maybe it is the changing of the coaching over the years or the players thinking more about their own individual stats then playing solid team ball but I just do not seem to notice the thank you pointing gesture much anymore…

Peach Jam Thread (7/7 Pool play concludes)

Drake Powell shot the ball well including the outside shot last week at the NBPA Top 100. He opened Peach Jam Monday with 20 points and 11 rebounds. He was 3 of 3 from three-point range. If he turns into a maker from behind the arc then he has nothing in his game that isn't a strength. It will take a bigger body of work to start calling him a sniper, but he is taking a positive trend.

James Brown had his best game of the entire EYBL season Monday. Brown had 18 points on 6 of 9 shooting inside the arc, and 6 of 7 from the foul line. He is not noted right now for his offensive tools, so this was a very positive outcome .

Fuking Batistas

remember Bobbi? Stunning wild-eyed blond who became half of the first male-female news anchor team with Charlie Gaddy at WRAL TV in Raleigh. She was the female part. Deserted us for the west coast and ended up being one of CNN's first anchors. Left her husband who I ended up meeting and becoming friends with for a bit. Nice guy. She's dead now. Not sure about him.

Then there was Fulgencio, self-installed dictator of Cuba who fell to Castro. Like Joe Biden, he was heavy into the graft and made friends with the Mafia which he allowed to operate their illegal activities in Cuba with impunity. He was responsible for making the rich richer and the poor poorer, just to line his own pockets and secure the backing of the most powerful interests. In an unsuccessful bid to remain in power, he murdered over 20,000 Cubans.

But at least he tried.
