2017-2018 OOTB other UNC sports thread

I hate that it's an SEC team that beat us. Adds credibility (rightly or wrongly) to the criticisms that we had an easy path up til now because we avoided SEC teams.

You've got to feel bad for Bergner. He pitched a hell of a game for nothing.
A quirk of baseball I've never understood if why the 1 run (the batter) of a home run after an error(s) isn't charged as an ER to the pitcher.

I get that the preceding errors allowed the inning to continue, and from that sense, the following homer wouldn't have happened. But the pitcher still conceded the homer. Just a little baseball oddity.

Right if there were two outs then the homer never would’ve happened. (Saying a guy got on base by an error w 2 outs). But what about if there’s only one out? That home run happens either way but the man on base by error shouldn’t have ever scored. I never found it odd.

ETA I think I totally misread your poast so just carry on. And if what you said is true I never knew that. A home run has always counted as an earned run as far as I thought.

What I'm saying is the homer isn't charged as a run to the pitcher. You would think that 1 run at least would be charged to him.

Ok. I never knew that. I was an unearned run was a runner who scored bc he got on base by error. Makes no sense th guy who hit a homer not being counted as an earned run.

If error was committed with 2 outs and the next guy hits a homer, then I can kind of see it because it can easily be argued that the pitcher is throwing differently with a guy on base who wouldn't have been there because they should all be in the dugout.

Datres had 2 errors credited to him that were filthy hops. Hiat(sp) made some good pitches. Got to have some luck, we had none. I'd rather be lucky than good.

I hate MIss State fans...group of drunk rednecks in the left field bleachers hollering at the UNC guys in the bullpen!!! Straight trash!

If an error is charged to a player in an inning then any run that scores which is after what would of had the defensive team off the field is unearned because in theory those plays shouldn’t of happened that inning.

To be honest I never thought we had the talent to be where we are. Mike Fox has done a masterful job to get us where we are. Everything since the regional to me is a bonus and great recruiting tool.
