2017-2018 OOTB other UNC sports thread

I think they're club, not varsity. Still cool though.

No idea. But they had a super legit trailer with all the boats on it that was painted up in Carolina Argyle with our logos all over it. If that's just a club team then they are well funded at the very least.

It was actually the women's rowing team though.

They are actually varsity. Just looked it up. It looks like maybe Duke and Clemson are the only other ACC schools that field a team. The ACC Championship is in Clemson on May 13th. You should go and give us a report on what the team looks like

... oh and how the team performs, too ;)

They were surprisingly hot. I would've expected them to look more like softball players.

That's actually not surprising, the three teams I saw were Clemson, dook and us. Rowing is relatively big at Clemson, mainly because of the facilities I'm guessing. Having a big ass lake in the middle of campus definitely doesn't hurt.

Sweet baby Jeezus, why does a rowing team need THIS many people? I thought like five competitors sat in a boat? Lol. Or does the real reason for such a large team have more to do with the Title after Eight and before Ten?

I think its kinda like track. Multiple events with different distances and team size. But I don't know anything about rowing, I just can't imagine any other reason for them to haul 12 boats down from Chapel Hill, or have that many girls. From what I could tell the entire team travelled down here too.

Ricky Miezan -- stud lacrosse player who was going to walk on for football -- decommits and signs with Stanford. He had been committed to UNC lax for 3 years.

Stanford offered him a football scholly.

Interesting. Stanford doesn't even have a lacrosse team. Did he just not want to be a two sport player or was he worried about not making the football team here?

I'm not sure, but based on his actions, I would say he's more of a fan of football than lacrosse.... or knows that he has the opportunity to potentially make more money as a football player than a lax player, professionally.

Stanford had plenty of scholarships open because their football program almost never signs a full class. Furthermore, they never sign anywhere close to a full class. For instance, in the 2018 cycle, they only signed 14 players.

They had the scholarships to give. We didn't. Not to a might-not-even-be-good=enough-to-play type like Miezan.

You realize I wasn't actually suggesting we should've used a football scholarship to ensure the enrollment of a player we were recruiting for lacrosse, right? Right?

It would have probably helped bring us a national championship though. Of course it would have been in LAX, but every championship counts right?

Big series coming up for the diamond heels vs #8 FSU. Doubleheader on Friday due to weather on Saturday and third game on Sunday.

The diamond heels win over Charlotte last night gave Mike Fox 1,400 career wins.

ETA: He has the 5th most wins among active coaches and 15th most of all time.

Yeah, but we lost the previous series 2-1 to FSU, so.

Question, will Fox get to 1500 career wins? I submit no, he will not. Not still in a Carolina uniform anyway.

Right, so what? That has nothing to do with him getting 1,400 wins.

Of course he will. There are approximately 400 games in a college baseball season. If he stays another 5 years, which will most likely happen, he will get it. By the time he's finished he should be top 10 all time in wins.
