Sooooo…. with sanity restored and proof positive that Roy can still recruit, maybe we can discuss the next cycle here.

Looking at the depth board, the upcoming season has 3 Scholly seniors (BRob, Rush and Woods). I think it's safe to pencil in Cole as OAD and Armando as likely OAD. Then, if Roy signs a Grad Transfer for next season, or gives the scholly to a walk-on, there's the chance for another spot.

All adds up to the potential for a 5-6 player recruiting class.

Sharpe is committed and Roy has offered:
Kessler, Brown, Todd, Roach, Williams and Springer

I'd guess PG is an immediate need, either as insurance for Francis, or a straight replacement for Cole. Or could a Junior Leaky be given the keys to the Ferrari?

SG/Wing is always a need, would this be where Williams and Springer come into play?

Besides Sharpe and then Snr Brooks, I wouldn't be relying on the front court hold-overs, so how important are Kessler, Brown and Todd?

Love to hear peoples opinions.

I don’t think Bacot will be a one and done
Agree, though I would have said the same about Coby last year!
So if Armando doesn’t go it’ll likely still be a 5 man recruiting class.
Also, if Armando stays there’d be less need for a OAD type big in 2020.

No one thought Tony Bradley was either and Bacot looks like a better player coming into college

Bacot doesn't have a 7'5 wingspan. To NBA teams drafting on potential, that matters greatly. I think Bacot will be good for us. I don't think he will be OAD.

As for 2020, immediate needs are wing recruits. Love Zaire Williams. He's exactly the sort of player that will excel at UNC. Brown also seems high on UNC, though he is more of a combo forward. A SG recruit would be nice too.

How has that wing span worked for him so far? Big Huff has a better built body and has good wing span so I guess he is a first rounder too?

Let's do a scholarship reset...Most likely:

Leaky, Platek, Brooks, Manley, Huff, Bacot, Francis, Harris, Sharpe. That's 4 open scholarships.

My wishlist in order for 2020:

Greg Brown - This kid is explosive and comes from a great family that played under Mack Brown at Texas. With UT basketball being what it is, we have a great shot here.

Zaire Williams - Another great kid from a great family. We're the early leader with Stanford and he has already said he wants to come back and visit this summer to play pickup.

A 2020 PG - Whether it's Roach (unlikely) or someone else we get involved with (more likely) I think the departure of Cole and Francis uncertainty makes this vital.

Jaden Springer - Apparently we were the offer he always wanted, let's see how that plays out.

Walker Kessler - I don't think he's as important since we have Brooks/Bacot/Manley up front but he's talented as hell.

Isaiah Todd - See above

I think we get Ziaire Williams and, if Greg Brown sticks to his timeframe of committing before the summer, that goes over well for us as well.

If we had offered Jaden Springer a few months ago, he would have been a shoe-in if the offer came a few months ago, but given his supposed "ire" for not getting an offer sooner + the recent success of Tennessee Basketball, we probably have some work to do. I also don't think Bacot is OAD, and a Front court of So. Bacot, Sr. Brooks, and Fr. Sharpe has me rubbing my hands together. Adding a combo forward like Brown would be incredible.

Have to wait and see who gets offers this summer, too. Roy is supposedly working on Caleb Love behind the scenes so perhaps he'll get an offer. Roy may also be fine with running with Leaky/Francis and possibly Harris at the Point. But I doubt we get Roach.

I think 2020 will be a class of 5 as you said Rush, B-Rob, Woods, Cole and a GT. With Sharpe committing it looks like it will be 4 remaining scholarships then. We are off to a great start with having Sharpe on board, I was able to watch him last summer at an Adidas Event and we really have a gem in him. He has a great feel around the rim, good hands that lead him to control the boards on both ends and very disruptive on drives from the perimter-moving his feet well for a young big.

In regards to who we could add next, It also seems like we have made very good impressions on both Zaire Williams and Greg Brown, and I do feel confident they will end up chosing us in the end. So, that would fill the 3 spot with Williams as he has compared him to Justin Jackson and Cam Johnson’s roles and then a 3/4 with Brown, who fits into that comboforward mold and really is a special talent and someone that would elevate us to a whole nother level. Both have expressed wanting to come back this summer and visit again, which is a good sign.

And then Springer who would come in to play as a combo, I see him more of a 2 for us. It seems like we have some work to do with him and with Harris now in the fold and if we add Zaire Williams on the wing we may not be as appealing to him, however he has expressed in the past that he liked Carolina and was looking for this offer, so I think we should pay attention to what visits he starts to take and take it from there.

I think Roy will go after a point guard next, I don’t really see Roach being an option, so I am paying attention to Cam Hayes (a 2021 guy who is expected to reclass to 2020) who has been on campus for an unoffical vist and Caleb Love who we reached out to early in the year. I definitely see Roy evaluating 2020 PGs being one of his main goals of the Eval periods this Spring and Sunmer and starting this weekend with the first one.

Right now if I had to give my projected class, I’d go- PG, Williams, Brown, Sharpe.

And then for the 5th scholly I’d say either Springer or more likely a PF target not yet on the radar as I don’t really see us getting Todd or Kessler right now. 2020 is off to a great start with Sharpe and it really does seem like the early targets we have offered are very high on UNC (Williams and Brown in particular), these next few months have the makings to be very exciting.

Considering Sharpe is already onboard and will be a monster @ UNC, the focus on wings and guards would seem appropriate.
Gut feeling is Bacot is here two years along with Garrison and that's a pretty solid outlook for 2020.
Have high hopes for Dayron, just think he will be great for the baby blue when he gets here.

If we show any 2020 PG attention would like to see it go to Caleb Love based off videos. I like Jalen Suggs too but guess no interest has been showed. Hayes is a ACC player but not sure if UNC fans would want him as their pg you would have to see him in person to judge and not just videos. Sharpe is much better than his rankings and I said it before Josh Hall will be at least top 75 kid and currently top 3 player in NC. Springer is an Alpha dog love his motor, Todd motor isn't always on go at times he just seems like he just coast through most parts of the game.

Please elaborate for those of us without instagram.

I have liked where we stand on Brown but recent chatter from Corey Evans has me worried. He claims Texas is now the leader.

Does the family still have a good relationship with Mack? If so, we need to bring him along on visits.

They do, a very good one. Mack met with the family when they were here for the Duke game. If he commits, Mack will have been very involved in making that happen.

Mack is a lot like Roy I think. He loves building those long lasting relationships and family atmosphere. Plus he has that laid back, country boy personality. He told a story about how Dean helped him land a recruit on his first go around here, so Mack needs to return the favor.

That would be my list and order as well.
I so hope Francis is healthy, he is a natural leader that those great scorers listed would thrive under.

This young man reminds me a LOT of Vince Carter. Maybe not as athletically gifted (let's be honest, who is?!?), but he straight up ATTACKS the rim. Haven't had one of THOSE kids in a WHILE.

Coach needs to offer Cam Johnson's brother out of Moon HS in Pittsburgh in the 2020 class. He is going to be better than Cam on the college level.

I agree, a solid 4* who you know was raised right. His senior season is in question due to a technicality. He may have exhausted his eligibility, he’s appealing.

Who do we not have after next season, well 7th, BRob are seniors and Cole is a absolute 1&D + any transfer we are likely to bring in. I personally do not see Bacot as a 1&D and we already have Sharp on the way and a senior Brooks as well as at least Manley should be ready to step in to more of the spot light. But telling ya, I would LOVE for us to snag either Brown (my preference) or Kessler, thinking Todd may be listening to Kalipari to much. Yeah, I know, that may be more greed than need but give me long big men or really athletic big men, heck Brown IMO may allow us to go triple tower big man and still run the floor well.

Clearly the area of most need is for a PG because we don't know how well Frances will be able to get back to the level he once played at but I am thinking he will be much more ready after next season, really like to see Frances Red shirt considering we have Cole and 7th next season. I feel good that Frances after a red shirt season could step right in and start but yeah, a big time PG (Roy loves Roach) will be a big time need. And at the wing, I think Leaky may entrench there but we need someone to push him for time there so maybe Springer but lot of time to see how things will develop so I would not pencil in a must have single guy just yet.

Getting Ant Harris to me makes our 2 guard spot really solid, he and a senior Platek and I am comfortable with the 2 spot.

Here is to me the interesting variable, Frances, no matter if he red shirts or not will not IMO be seen as a PT threat for a 2020 freshman big time PG. If he does play next season, he will be behind Cole and I see Cole as a 30+ minute freshman, I see 7th as his primary back up (because I have always been higher on 7th at the point that most but he will as well be a senior who will at least have more experience and even if those that are not confident in him are right he should be able to execute our style of play better just by continued development and having run it for 3 years). Frances is IMO going to have a ton of rust and basically 2yrs of lost high school development, and playing behind Cole and 7th not a lot of court time to knock much of that rust off. We still don't know how far back he can come, how much recovery he can get, that is why I would love to see him red shirt so he can learn and work with both our coaching staff as well as our S/C coaching a bit slower so he can max his chances of getting back as much as he can. If Frances can get back to where his game was going before surgery (I think he was on a potential 5 star Micky D path) and do so with that knee having much less pain than he had known in high school (his surgery was more for an accumulated injury situation than a this is where he hurt it situation) he could be special..

My point with Frances is he will not be looked at as a hinder to big PT to a 2020 PG that looks at us and the door will seem to be swung wide open for a 2020 PG to come in and get rock solid PT, a major key to our getting a Roach like guy, much as it looked that ended up in our getting Cole..

If Greg Brown does commit early, we'd have some momentum really going. He's the player I want to be a Tar Heel the most out of the 2020 class.

If it is Roach for 1 season I am with you.

I look at it this way, IF IF IF Francis is now healthy when this season starts, then I would love for HIM to be our backup point guard. I won't make the same mistake of saying so and so needs to transfer again, but I would love for a healthy Francis to get those 8-10 minutes behind Cole.
Then Francis takes over in his Sopf year with a lineup of Bacot, Brooks, Brown? :), Leaky, Ant Harris and possibly Zaire too with Sharpe and Manley as frontcourt subs.
THAT TEAM IS LOADED! I want a healthy Francis or a one and done Roach leading that team.

I honestly do not see a scenario where I see it a great idea for Frances to do anything but red shirt next season. Couple reasons I say that.

First that knee, under the best circumstances, even a kid that has played college ball for a year or 2, it is the year after they came back to play that they were really able to get back close to being physically and mentally sound on a knee. With Frances, it was anything but the best circumstance, we are talking micro fracture surgery, a career ending situation for many. So take a torn ACL, MCL and amplify that several times over and it just does not project to much from him as a freshman. But give him a red shirt year, let him be brought along extra slow, monitor any soreness that comes up, any potential meniscus issues that can be typical of this kind of thing, and frankly to get mentally to where he can trust it rather than live the feat of re-injury (a hard thing to get past). All the while practicing and have a free ride learning what we do as well as bonding with his team mates, I frankly see no down side to a red shirt for him.

I think we all see the example of his team mate in high school, Manley, he missed so much playing time in high school. I see it is a lack of development as well as a lack of over all game like stamina to play for extended minutes and we as well see Manley maybe pushing harder to increase stamina and strength resulted in knees barking to the pressure they had not been used to that sat him for a string of games this past season.

I totally agree, it also helps that we have Cole, 7th, Leaky, ant harris, and kj that can all play the point!

What was it? It's gone now.

We are in really good shape with Brown, at least for now but Shaka Smart is working hard on him, it is going to be a slug, but the kid does like us and if he had to pick a team right now, I think it would be us, things do have a habit of changing thou.

Corey Evans thinks Texas now leads. I think UNC is strong here, I just know how hard it is to land a Texas kid. I can’t see why Brown would take his talents to a grinder style offense like Texas seems to employ at times.

Stevie Wonder saw that comin. As a matter of fact, i wouldnt be shocked if Seventh talked to roy at seasons end which drove roy to pursue Harris and Keeling...

Good luck 7th... thanks for being a heel

Apparently Coach Rob went to see Cam Johnson's little brother, Donovan on Friday.... Roy was watching Springer. Then back to the Hill to host Pierce.

Yep, Cam's little brother Jonathan "Puff" Johnson is coming on strong in the first AAU summer session. Hope Roy gets an offer out soon. The kid shot 47% from the 3-point line in high school last year. Reminds me of Justin Jackson with that floater.

Wonder if Donovan is a late bloomer like his brother. I could see him sneaking into the top 100. Worth an offer imo.
Definitely seems like it. If nothing else he's a great four year guy to have to become a good upperclassmen. We don't need 13 top 50 recruits.

Puff has range for days, and it looks like a bit of a handle and passing ability too. I wonder if that weakside shotblocking is for real or just high school kids taking bad shots.

He doesn't look like it now, but remember Tony.

If I had to I'd say Armando is a bit behind Tony. But he'll be starting and getting all the PT he can handle. So he may have more room to stretch and grow, and he will get a lot closer scrutiny by the pros.

I think you need to recruit both ways. Like he's gone (aim for ready-to-play top talent), and like he'll return (next tier, but still very good talent).
