The Old North State
I figured it was time we had a thread for 2022 as we are putting the finishing touches on our fantastic 2021 class(hopefully adding 5* Tony Grimes in about seven hours)! The state of North Carolina is once again loaded with talent in 2022, as evidenced by the latest list of 4* recruits from that class. I have highlighted the ones that we've already offered.

Do any of you guru's out there have any scoop on any of these North Carolina guys, or any 2022 recruits period?

Three of the players are in the top 100 nationally — Grimsley defensive tackle Travis Shaw is ranked No. 30, Monroe wide receiver Shaleak Knotts is ranked No. 42, and Shelby defensive end Malaki Hamrick is ranked No. 66.

Cleveland running back Omarion Hampton was named a four-star recruit as well, just outside the top 100 at No. 107.

None of the ten players have committed to a college yet, but all have at least one offer.

Look for UNC to be extremely active in VA for 2022. They're gonna have a handful of 5 star kids that Dre' can work on.
Undoubtedly. We’ve already offered their top 3 players in Shawn Murphy, Bryce Carter, and George Pettaway, who are all ranked in the top 50 nationally.

ETA: Dre was a great addition to our staff.

Few more names...

Trevyon Green, OT (VA)
Gunner Stockton, QB (GA)
Michael Allen, RB (J.H. Rose)
Xavier Simmons, LB (NW Guilford)
Jalon Walker, OLB (Salisbury)

ETA: Just noticed you had a couple of these
No problem buddy. I’m just really attuned to our recruiting and I appreciate all the scuttlebutt you and a few others bring to the board.

One of my bucket list items is to see UNC win the ACC in football and be in the playoffs for a National title.

Where is this list from? Shaw is a 5-star top 10 prospect from Rivals.

Some more in-state names to watch...

WR/CB Isaiah Crowell (East Forsyth)
ATH Kellan Hood (Richmond)
ATH Osiris Ross (Eastern Randolph)
DL Bryce Dixon (Butler)
DL Kaevon Freshwater (Northeastern)

Will Longo call plays so that Walston gets touches? Last year, the TEs saw the ball so little that it would be a turn off to most top TE recruits.
I think Walston and Morales will get a few more touches this year, I know they will if Lilly has anything to say about it. But we have so much offensive talent and there's only one ball.

Defenses, not even those as deeply talented as Clemson, Bama, and Ohio St, cannot cover everyone all the time. All DCs know about the UNC WRs and RBs. They must focus on stopping them. That should provide opportunities for TEs to get open.

I believe stockton is committed to lil Carolina. Note sure what he was thinking must love to lose a lot lol.

One would think so. Despite the fact that Walston was only targeted once in the first game, I think Longo will utilize our TE's a bit more this year. We only threw to the TE 18 times all last season. Mack says Walston has the second best hands in our receiving corp, so I expect to see him and Morales catch more balls going forward. It would make our passing game that much more difficult to defend.

If he doesn't flip, he would be the highest ranked slinger they've landed in years. Personally, I feel like Muschamp is very much on the hot seat this year.

I just don't see more than 4 wins in their schedule and 4-6 would likely be the end of Muschamp's tenure. His teams have gone 54-46 overall(UF, SC), and he's 26-25 entering his 5th year as HC of the Birds.

ETA: Sorry, the first link didn't work.

Is Benji Gosnell leaning to Florida as many assume? If he needs a reason to become a Gator, it was evidenced in Oxford last Saturday. Florida TE Kyle Pitts had 8 catches for 170 yards and 4 TDs.

Just read that Ty Murray is not going to play football anymore and is on medical hardship. Such a shame. Study hard young man and best of luck. Mack said we would be looking for a center in this class since it is likely too late to address that loss in the ‘21 class.

Anyone know if we’re going after Gunner Givens, 4* OT from Virginia? The state of Virginia is loaded in this class.
