2025 recruiting....

Does Claude have another year of eligibility? I see him listed as playing 5 years, but only 6 games in one year. So since he started during COVID, he might have another year coming. Anybody know?

I ask because we lose JWit after this season, so if Claude goes, we're down to JWash, Lubin and Brown - who currently look like backups. [I'm assuming High doesn't return.]

We also lose RJ.

There's a good chance we lose some or all of Ian, Seth, Elliot and Drake to the pros.

If Cade's situation doesn't improve dramatically, I expect he'll transfer.

Meanwhile, our record of turning portal players into stars is looking outdated. That being the case, can we count on getting what we need from the portal?

How binding are letters of intent? I ask, because if I'm Denis or Dixon, how comfortable am I coming to a depleted program like ours could end up being?

Claude was in the same high school class as Armando Bacot. This is his final year of eligibility.

Yes, it looks like we're losing a lot of players after this season. I'll be surprised if both Washington and Lubin return considering they'll be seniors and they play the same position. We have a lot of spots to fill for next year, and yet we haven't landed a single top 40 recruit. Why? Because money is the most important factor in recruiting in the NIL era, and UNC's NIL stinks. I highly doubt we'll be picking up elite portal players to fill our open spots for next year unless the boosters suddenly change their minds.

Firing a coach because the boosters refuse to buy him talent is just dumb. Especially when the coach won the ACC and got a 1 seed a few months ago.
If he shows he knows what to do with the kind of players he's getting, his job should safe. Unless maybe he ends the season with the cupboard bare.

I'm reasonably confident he and the team can do better in the weak ACC. But not blindly confident.

We could end up with no worse than 12 losses, and Hubert might resume his mastery of the portal. In which case we'll look back at this as a blip, and remind ourselves that we had only lost to a few very good teams at this point in time.

He can't master the portal without NIL money. That was made clear this past summer.

So when we perform well, it’s the coach’s doing. But when we suck, it’s just having bad players because boosters aren’t donating enough.

Got it.

He's only mastered the portal one time and that was with Manek. Manek wasn't rated super high in the portal either. Just happened to work out real good for us.

You ever thought the big money donors don’t believe in Hubert and are still upset that UNC didn’t even do a coaching search…Instead letting Roy Williams name the next coach…Fact is Hubert Davis wasn’t qualified to take this job….

This. It’s easy to constantly complain about NIL, but that’s not getting granular enough to understand the cause behind it. I’d say there are some top end boosters that prefer not to toss hundreds of thousands at a coach they maybe didn’t prefer or don’t think has the ability to do anything with the acquired talent. I’m sure at least some of them view it this way. Very possible that some were upset about how the process played out with the fake interview process and Roy hiring the coach.

Dumb, yes, and unlikely, as well. But his seat may be warmer than expected unless/until he turns this around.

Having a talented back court that can run and score combined with a front court that can't is a problem.

So far Hubert seems to be setting his style of play to fit the back court. Does he stick with that?

Does he change the style of play to fit the abilities of his front court players?

Does he play 4 guards and whoever is able to keep up from the front court committee? Or 5 guards?

Anyone else really missing Armando? Surely he has another year of eligibility, right?

It's unclear to me what the big NIL donors get out of making big donations. Can you or someone else shed light on that?

If it's mainly love of UNC basketball, how durable is that support if we under-perform expectations?

Like I already pointed out to you, we have plenty of talent on this team. More than some teams in the AP Top 5. All the talent in the world doesn't matter if you can't coach it worth a damn. Calipari already showed us that.

It's being reported that Belichick is getting $20 million a year in NIL, and that Mack Brown was only given $4 million.

That right there shows you just how much impact donors have on the success of sports in the NIL era. They just upped the football NIL by 500%. They could have done it at anytime. They chose not to cut the check until Belichick was available.

Imagine what Hubert could do with a 500% increase in NIL. Heck even a fraction of that. We'd have the frontcourt needed to make this current team a contender. We'd likely have a good 2025 recruiting class to. The boosters really have all the power now.

Is there a free site that lists these numbers and explains things to laymen?

Hubert is not Bill…Why is it so hard for you to understand that more than a few big money movers on the basketball side were not in favor of the hire…4 years in and guess where Hubert has the Heels…Out of the Top 25 and on the bubble again…

Make no mistake though his seat is getting warm…
