Back Down to 10 Scholarship Players

I think he meant that there was no other players that had to be focused on as much, which does make a difference imo. If one team is loaded and the other isn’t, then guys can double more or even rotate players on defense and dog one certain player on the opposing team
Which is the very same experience that all 4 & 5 star players get, most of the 3 stars as well and yet those fellas that spend so much time in a shooters position don't typically shoot such a poor percentage, isn't that true?

Lol I hate text. I love to talk. You made my point with the three stars. They aren’t guarded as heavy, therefore they can be ready to shoot and even rested up at times. A lone 5star or any lone star can be ball hawked at all times and often wore out. I think thats why a lot of peeps shoot it better from deep in the next level up. They aren’t double teamed as much and or beat half to death. I do realize they work harder at their craft in college and nba and that does pay off but very rarely does someone get double teamed in the nba, and don’t pay for it with outside shooting. ie watch joker right now.

LaMelo Ball had a 25% 3-point shooting percentage in Australia. He went to the NBA in a matter of months and had a 3-point shooting percentage of over 35%. Then, are the players in the Australian league better than the NBA in terms of skills? (Of course, this example may not be correct.)
So let's give another example. Evans improved his 3-point shooting percentage by 10% after moving from TSF, a weak team, to CP3, which has at least four top 150 players. Increased from 20% to 30%.
If Stevenson had played alongside a big-time point guard like Cadeau in the EYBL, we might give him a different rating.
I'm not saying Stevenson would do well if he reclassified.
In the meantime, I would like to say that Stevenson cannot ignore the environmental factors because he has been evaluated as a good shooter.
FYI, I'm in a position that I don't want Stevenson to reclassify. Because he still has a lot to improve on and he's not sure if he's ready to play on the college stage.
LOL, you are talking about Australian ball and the NBA and I am talking about what a kid is doing in high school, why? Of course players can improve their shooting some much more than others but kids simply do not go from being a less than 20% shooter to a great shooter, no one will confuse Leaky Black with Steph Curry and they are not going to confuse this kid either. Are there exceptions to this, do some kids greatly improve their shooting numbers, of course exceptions always exist to any norm. I am very willing to listen if you wish to make a case that you see something that indicates that he is a much better jump shooter than he has shown.

You share numbers where 4 out of 150 players greatly improved their shooting by changing teams, those numbers you want to make your case with, do you typically bet on 4 out of 150 odds, if so they have to love you in Vegas.

I mean I don't get what is so complicated about this, what is so hard to understand, simply put the kid is a weak jump shooter. 6'9" kid that can't get his jump shot off because of the tough coverage he gets playing high school ball yet spends his time outside the paint?

"In the meantime, I would like to say that Stevenson cannot ignore the environmental factors because he has been evaluated as a good shooter." LOL, geez, you have to admit, that is funny! Its that darn global warming thing, I guess he would shoot better if the gym were lighted by solar panels? LOL Maybe rather than climate change he should be concerned with a shooting change because 19.5% is PUTRID!

Look, I am not looking to demean this kid, I am really not. I just see him tagged with a 5 star label, see UNC fans falling over for him because of that 5 star tag and I simply don't see why. I share why I don't, I would love to see him as more than I do but I am not going to say he is something that I just don't see.

I like Stevenson and hope he becomes a Heel when he is ready. Meantime I hope Washington can get some work because, IMO, he can become very good for us.
This is the year when we learn if Washington is Zeller or Manley. Not exactly comparable, of course, but Zeller missed a lot of his first 2 years with injuries, got really good as a junior, and became a star as a senior.

From an injury perspective, Washington looks more like Manley, but from an upside perspective he may be closer to Zeller.

As for Stevenson, is he more of a 3/4 or a 4/3? What he doesn't look like is a 5.

As for Ingram, I imagine he wants to go pro after this season. I could be wrong, and he might not get there, but I think that's his aim. Just a guess. But we could be missing both Armando and Ingram in 2024-25, leaving a front line of

Washington (55)
Withers (123)
High (69)
Brown (54)
Stevenson (16)

() = HS ranking

Only Withers has started. Some might say that doesn't count because he started for an awful Louisville team, so is he really a proven starter at this stage?

3 stars in high school are not guarded as hard as 4 & 5 star players are? You say that as if a 3 star rated player in high school is barely above average for the high school game, that is just not true. 3 star players in high school are the best player most teams will have, not many high teams have a lot of 4& 5 stars that reduce a 3 star to simply being average.

I really think this is pretty simple for a 5 star player that is supposed to be a shooter, that considers himself a shooter, that is spending that amount of time behind the 3pt arch has to shoot better than 19.5% and you can't just dismiss that by saying those high schools kids just guard him hard to explain his numbers. I am simply saying I would prefer to NOT go thru another Leaky Black on offense experience and I wonder why so many others seem willing to?

We don't know if Washington is Manley or Kevin Garnett, he could be either? WE don't know how much he will improve over this off season but I will tell you what we do know. We do know, that for some players coming back from serious knee injury they are able to play some of what they were prior to the injury but as a solid rule of thumb it is the second year back from surgery that we really see what a kid may have. What we do know is the kid spent the most part of 2 years trying top come back from this injury, the first operation was done poorly and the kid had to go back under the knife to have the repair properly done. The kid spent the lion share of 2yrs rehabbing back, means very little time was able to be spent actually conditioning, he was in no way in game shape last season which is not surprising considering he had very little conditioning work in to be able to play in games.

Then you realize, it is hard for any freshman big man to come to UNC and play even if he is fully healthy and conditioned but for a kid to miss half the season, having been allowed VERY limited contact in practice, being that far behind everyone else, and yet be expected to play well, really was asking to much. My point is Washington is very much a wild card but for the first time in a long time he has an off season that is fully devoted to working on his body and his game and not rehab. So unless he gets hurt again, we will see what he can bring this coming season. He badly needed to add strength this off season, most especially lower so he can establish position with a solid base, he could not do that last season. Right now I see Jalen as more a 4 that can stretch than a 5, his turn around jumper is considered to be unstoppable for most 4s, many 5s as well due to the kids 7'5" reach and high release.

Word is High may be developing more in to a center than a 4, you talking 6'9-10" and 225 (maybe more by now) and that is similar size as Charles Brown who is coming in the 24 class and considered a guy we want to replace Bacot with. High would have a year more experience and S/C coaching than Brown would have. So I am not sure that Washington may not actually fit the 4 spot better than the 5, he did run the court exceptionally well before that knee injury so could he be a target from some Cadeau outlet passes?

My point is that I would much rather bet on Washington as well as Withers to produce for us at the 4 spot and mix in some High there as well than I would Stevenson giving us more or even as much. I would have Stevenson no better than 4th in line for minutes at our 4 spot if he did reclass. If he came to us in the 24 class, Withers and Washington are still there, Brown comes in, and if I had to bet I would bet we portal in a productive center and we will have the schollys to be able to do just that. If Washington is not able to get back to the ACC level as a player then we portal in 2 big men, again, we have the schollys to do that and without the spot being owned by Bacot, other centers will find us attractive.

As for Stevenson coming as a 3, we will still have Ingram and bringing in Jack and Powell, do you see any room there for a 19.5% 3pt shooter cause I sure don't. Stevenson looks to me like a kid that in the old days we would have brought in and developed for a couple years and maybe we have a player by his Jr season, maybe even starter level by then but kids don't stick around that long any more. 5stars come in expecting not just to play big time minutes but to start and that I do not see happening for this kid in his year 1 if he comes to UNC.

Dave please read my post. I never said any of that. I actually explained exactly what you said. I agree with you. I said any star.
Those guys can be keyed on and struggle at times. I don’t know the numbers but I’d bet a dollar to donuts that numbers come easier for peeps with some decent help. Lol of Courbet could be said of any sport.
I totally agree about the leaky black deal. But they can’t all shoot great. Imo he stretched out his abilities to the fullest. I think he could have driven more but if he were a 40% 3 guy he’d be on about any nba team he’d want.

Still believe Jarin would be a great addition to the 24 class, but do not envision him being at UNC in 2023. Based upon the expectations from him and his father on his career of getting to the NBA early.
He is Bama bound. Just my 2 cents.

Possible 2024-25 Roster

Elliot Cadeau
RJ Davis

Seth Trimble
Ian Jackson
Drake Powell
Jarin Stevenson
Harrison Ingram

Jae'Lyn Withers
Jalen Washington
Zayden High
James Brown

That's 11 guys who could be here next year. Depending whether someone steps up in the post, that's a seriously good roster. But, of course, 3 of them might go pro (Cadeau, RJ, Ingram) and 1 hasn't even committed yet (Stevenson). Plus, who knows who will be tempted by the portal?

If all those guys leave (or don't come, in Stevenson's case), the roster looks like this

Trimble
Jackson
Powell
Withers
Washington
High
Brown

We'd go from this year's logjam and experience in the backcourt to being very thin and young in the backcourt and wings. Meanwhile, the front court is a bunch of question marks right now, but won't be by portal time next year.

I agree with your assessment of Washington last year. I will reserve my judgment on him and his abilities until I see him this year. I think all of the other guys I listed are still going to compete for minutes to some degree at the 4.

As for Stevenson. I believe it to be a moot point. I think if he were coming to UNC, he would have been here by now. Hope I'm wrong.
Does he want to be close to home, or fly free?
