If I were a superhero my kryptonite would be muscle cars. I’ve always owned at least one since I got a Plymouth duster for $900 in ‘75. . My fav? ‘72 mfing gto. Baddest ride ever. Bench front seat, no ac, am radio, no power steering, auto transmission (yea I know) but DAMN that bitch was bad. You could punch it at stop and burn the tires despite auto transmission. Sounded like nascar when you got on it. Never lost a race. (Okay I raced three times but still…)

Biggest disappointment? ‘87 z28. Bought it new off the showroom floor. Looked great but performance was shit. Got smoked by mustang gt’s several times.

My dream car is the bandit trans am. They’re damn expensive though.

Currently I’m shoveling money into a 2011 challenger srt. I got it cheap cause well it’s a pos. But HOLEEEEFUK 470 hp makes up for a lot of mopar ineptitude. I just might kill myself in this one.

Why not? You can make anything a muscle car depending on what you drop into it. That's the real fun for most people is the build itself.

Why not? Because he didn't say he modified the Duster or dropped a bigger powerplant in it. To me, that indicates that he was talking 'as is'. As is, the Duster was no muscle car, at least not as I remember.....and my brother had one and I drove it.

"For seven model years, the Plymouth Duster was a great value muscle car. It was cheaper than the RoadRunner and other similar models by at least a few hundred dollars, and it was a significant discount over big-block beasts like the Superbird. The Duster offered decent performance with a 275 horsepower 340 V8 for the first few years, but soon emissions restrictions and new SAE Net power ratings combined to slowly diminish power output.

In 1975, Plymouth raised the price of the Duster by hundreds, eliminating its utility as a bang-for-your-buck mini muscle car. 1976 was the last year of the Duster, as it was discontinued and soon succeeded. Today, Dusters are some of the most affordable collectible muscle cars from the 1970s, and offer great nostalgia in a beautiful package."

Maybe your brother just had the little old lady version.

good info, and maybe you're right about the one that my bro had. I'll be asking him. And I wasn't saying it wasn't a pretty decent ride. It was fine for what it was.

On the other hand, he [ @heelmanwilm ] referred to his goat. Now there was a car. My completely broke ass wanted one so bad back then I couldn't stand it. I would literally dream about having one.

Ford Mustangs, from 1964-1968/69 are, for the most part, the most bad-ass cars ever. Some of them are more bad-ass than others. But, if you have even the most run-of-the-mill Mustang from those years... you have a bad-ass fvcking car!

Nice to see you're alive and kicking.

That entire era from the 60's to mid 70's had some fantastic cars, regardless of make. Everyone had something they could claim was kickass. Things run great today from a convenience and reliability standpoint, but people have no idea what they missed out on.

It was a beast and a good-looking one. I was invited to drive one by a guy I barely knew and he insisted that I really bear down on it. I did and it scared me a little.

Now I understand that it's coming back out, and pictures I've seen make it a close match to the originals. I might look into them. Here's a '70....



That GTO was what I wanted though.

My best friend in high school had a yellow Plymouth barracuda. That thing had to have been twenty feet long. We called it the “banana boat”. It would fly. Another friend had a 68 falcon with three on the tree. The steering wheel was like 3 ft in diameter lol. He nearly killed us several times not being able to shift waf.

I don't recall such a Pontiac, but there was an Olds of that designation and it was a really good car. A friend of mine had one, IIRC. Wait, scratch that. My buddy had a Cutlass Supreme, and it was a really sweet ride as well. Nicest car in our bunch of knuckleheads.


A different friend had the 88, and it was earlier sixties vintage and I think it might have been the SUPER 88, not the Delta. But there was a Delta 88. There was a notorious bootlegger in our neck of the woods, and he had it and it had (IIRC) eight single barrel carbs, or something crazy like that, and a pneumatic lift with the valve on the floor just inside the rear driver side door to counteract the weight from filling the trunk with shine. When he got out of that biz he sold the car to my buddy and by that time, it just had a four barrel carb, but that was all it needed. My buddy thought he was bad ass with that thing. Damn thing was downright dangerous and my pal scared the beejeezus out of me with it on a few occasions. I mean 'oh shit we're about to die' kind of scared, driving on twisty back, country roads with woods tight to the road on both sides, taking small curves at 120. How are we still here?

My dad had a ‘78 cutlass supreme that was a sweet ride. Before that he had a canary yellow Cadillac coupe de ville that I took my gf and a dozen or so of our closest friends in. That fukin caddy would glide down the road doing 90 like it was nothing. You could seat 8 people in it comfortably.

I'm going to tell you something you may have never heard before. They don't make 'em like they used to.

You felt like you were flying in one, that's for sure. Just don't ask him to make too many sharp turns.
