Best and Worst Bands: The letter A

Worst: Air Supply/A Flock of Seagulls

As a social experiment (working from home today), I whistled the tune for "Never Gonna Give You Up", and my wife promptly threw a pillow at me. And she is only listens to Christian music...one of the most square people (musically) you'll ever come across.

Confirmed -- this is a terrible song and Rick Astley is horrendous.

I could find you five "country" artists right now that you'd like. That's a huge spectrum of music you're dismissing by just saying "I don't like country."

Agreed. I like country, as long as it's not the "Top 40" made-for-radio country. (Example: anything that would play on CMT)

Yeah it's just like the mega generic label of "rock." Lots of variations fall under the header of "rock" and "country." And just like with rock, the good stuff isn't played on the radio, with few exceptions -- Mumford & Sons comes to mind for "Rock" and Zac Brown Band and Chris Stapleton come to mind for country.

Feel free to toss 'em out there, and we'll see what sticks. I know we went through this before. I'll give a try.
And honestly, I can listen (and enjoy) old old school like Johnny cash or maybe some bluegrass. But growing up my mom would listen to Alabama, Randy Travis, and similar shit like that. Makes me want to jam ice picks in my ears. I just never took the time to listen to any country music because ... why should I when I can find plenty enough rock, r&b, blues that I enjoyed.

When do we move through this alphabet? I have some good ones coming up lol
One letter a day.

Audioslave could have been one of the all-time greats if they'd stuck together.
I felt the same way after their first album, but then with the second and third, each one wasn't quite as good as the one before. Still good, but not AS good. But that first album, that's a go-to recommendation for anybody that wants to know what a great rock album should sound like.

Hopefully this doesn't go the way of the movie tournament.
GFY.

Damn it you used one of my Cs. In the A thread, to boot.

EDIT. Nevermind that would be an S not a C.
My man, you gotta check out the bluegrass group he was in before he went solo called The SteelDrivers.

The two albums they did with Chris Stapleton as the frontman are:

SteelDrivers (every full album version I can find on youtube, the tracklist is backwards. I.E. the very last song on the video "Blue Side of the Mountain" is song #1 on the CD, the next to last song "Drinkin' Dark Whiskey" is song #2 on the CD, and so on. You should listen to it in the correct CD order IMO)
Reckless (this one is in correct order)

You'll love it. Awesome instrumentals and then CS's voice completes it.

Yeah but thank god we moved to NC when I was a knee-high and never went back.
Yeah, I hope you don't take any offense to this, but Pennsylvania sucks. I've spent about two weeks all around the Eastern and middle part of the state and if I never went back, I'd be alright with it.

Philly has all the bad parts of New York (rude people who act like Northeasterners) but very little of the good parts of New York (sightseeing, iconic places to visit, etc.). And the rest of Eastern Philly once you get outside of the suburbs is rednecky but without any Southern charm. The King of Prussia Mall is pretty cool. That's about it lol.

Never heard of them before. I'll check them out. His voice is something else for sure.

A Perfect Circle
Anthrax
Arcade Fire

A Perfect Circle - YES

I was trying resist the urge to just start posting everyone I listen to that starts with "A", but I would certainly toss in Amy Lee (although, was waiting for "E" for this one)...Adelitas Way, All that Remains, and even a lesser known Finnish band called "Arion".

I like some of Alan Jackson's very early stuff too. Not sure if he qualifies here.

A Day To Remember (unless that counts as "D")

I forgot about All That Remains and Adelitas Way. Those are worthy of a shout out.

Best: AIC and Allman Brothers

Worst: Tori Amos

As for Aerosmith, I like their old stuff (Last Child, Pandora's Box, Mama Kin, Kings and Queens, Remember, etc...) but their newer stuff is terrible. They were actually a rock band once.

No offense taken... believe me I know. While I do have a few fond memories (mostly visiting my grandmother); she passed away recently and on my way out of PA after the funeral I was thinking that might be my last trip up there for a LOOOOONG time; hell maybe EVER. And it didn't bother me a bit.

Don't worry - @tarheel0910 used Andre 3000, which by the rules should have waited until the numerical day instead of the A day.

Amy Lee (although, was waiting for "E" for this one)

Might wanna wait a few days past that until the "L" day.
