CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - In the first game of the 2014 Fall World Series on Friday night, the Blue team secured a 7-3 victory over the Navy team at Boshamer Stadium.

Senior right-hander Benton Moss, who got the start for the Blue team, tossed 5.2 strong innings and allowed just three runs on six hits while striking out five. Taylore Cherry took the mound for Navy and gave up seven hits in his five innings of work.

The Blue team got the action started early with a big blow in the top of the first inning that started with a leadoff hit-by-pitch to sophomore Alex Raburn. Skye Bolt and Tyler Ramirez followed with a single and a walk, respectively, to load the bases.

Adrian Chacon then grounded into a double play that scored the first run of the game before Joe Dudek belted a two-run home run over the right field wall to give the Blue team a 3-0 first inning lead.

An RBI triple by Bolt and a single up the middle by Ramirez pushed two more across for the Blue team in the second inning.

After a rocky start, Cherry settled in and allowed two hits in his final three innings. One of those was by Ramirez, who went 2-for-3 on the night with two RBIs, including his fourth inning RBI double that gave the Blue team a commanding 6-0 lead.

The Navy team finally broke through and answered in the bottom of the fourth. After allowing just one hit through three innings, Moss gave up an RBI triple to Preston Hudak and a single to Brian Miller to make it a 6-2 game.

Navy then cut the Blue team's lead in half with a run in the fifth inning, but Zach Rice closed the door with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, allowing one hit and no walks and sealing the Blue team's 7-3 victory.

Freshman Ryder Ryan went 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Navy team and Joe Dudek finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored for Blue.

The first weekend of this year's Fall World Series continues on Saturday with the second game of the series at 6 p.m. at Boshamer Stadium.
