March 15th, 1869- the Cincinnati Baseball Club, led by center fielder Harry Wright, became the first all-professional baseball team. Known for their vibrantly colored red socks, the team was dubbed the Cincinnati Red Stockings.
March 15, 2008- Tyler Hansbrough scores 26 points, including the game winner, to lead the Tar Heels to a 68-66 win over Virginia Tech.
March 15, 1997, 20 years ago today, Dean Smith earns career victory 877, breaking Adolph Rupp's NCAA Division I record of 876 in a 73-56 win over Colorado in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Winston-Salem.
March 15, 1969, Charlie Scott hits the game-winning jumper at the buzzer to beat Lefty Driesell's Davidson Wildcats, 87-85, to win the NCAA East Regional and advance the Tar Heels to a third consecutive Final Four.
They also hung a banner that said "If unsweet tea was a college, it would be DOOK."
Pretty damn accurate. And that's why we don't use counties, because we can just break up the state by those descriptions.
